Daryl's POV

I peeled into the drive of the prison, not even worrying about why there were so many walker bodies all over the ground. Tyrese and Bob were quickly running into quarantine, the meds in hand. I went to run in, but felt arms held me back. "Daryl... Daryl stop." Rick's voice growled. I turned around, furrowing my eyebrows. The look on his face was filled with nervousness. "I gotta go see Kat." He shook his head. "Not right now you don't. I have to tell you what happened." I raised my eyebrows and felt myself start to break. "What?" He gulped. "You have to wait because I know her wishes, and she didn't want you to see her the way she is right now. She... She died, Daryl." I felt my eyes grow wide and I started to take off, but he grabbed me. "Wait! I have to finish." He kept his arms on me, knowing as soon as he let go I'd run. "Hershel managed to give her CPR... But she doesn't look too good right now Daryl... You won't wanna see her like that, she wont want you t-" I cut him off by pushing him away and running into the building. I ran to where Maggie and Glenn crowded, running straight into the cell. I felt my eyes grow wide and I felt like I was going to fall. I grabbed the wall. She was pale, when usually she'd be tan. Her lips were a darker, more purple color, and her eyes had rings around them. Hershel grabbed my arm, but I shook him off, getting down beside her bed. "I'll leave you alone with her for a little bit... She should wake up soon." I didn't even acknowledged what Hershel was said, only staring at the small girl laying in the bed. Kat is rather thin, but she's never looked so... Fragile. So weak. I sat there, brushing her hair off her forehead repeatedly, waiting for her to just open her eyes. Finally, she shot up roughly. "N-No." She said, about to launch herself out of the bed. "Kat! Hey, look at me." I said, forcing her eyes to meet mine. She looked at me and gulped, then her hands went to my shoulders. "Daryl." She said, sounding more upset than I had probably ever heard her. She hugged me tightly, pulling me close. I hugged her to me tightly, trying to calm her down. "Baby.. Hey I'm here." She finally looked at me, then shoved her lips to mine.

Kat's POV

After the kiss I rested my forehead against his. "I thought... I though I-" I was cut off by him pulling me close to him. His body was shaking. "I know... They told me." "Wait, I actually..." He looked at me, nodding slowly. I died... I actually died... "Baby I tried to be her-" I shushed him. "Everything is okay now... Just relax." He nodded a bit, his hands cupping my cheeks. "I love you." "I love you too." I stood up, feeling a bit better. "You're not as pale anymore." Daryl mumbled. I smiled. "I feel a lot better." We walked out of quarantine, and I was automatically swept into the large arms of someone else. "You're not allowed to scare us like that ever again." Rick mumbled in my ear. I smiled, nodding at him as he released me. "You had me scared half to death!" Hershel said, kissing my forehead. "I know... I know, but it's gonna take more than some disease to get me down." He chuckled, nodding. "Just be careful." I nodded and he smiled. "You were, pretty interested in the bible." He said, pulling me slightly away from the boys. I nodded once again. He took my hand in his, then set a black leather bound book in it. "It's not much, the leather is torn and the pages are bent, bu-" I cut him off by hugging him tightly. "I love it. Thank you, Hershel." He smiled at me. "I'm so glad you're okay, Katherine."

As we all began to rebuild the prison, Daryl never left my side. He kept his arms around my waste for part of it, his head in my neck. I had a satchel on my hip, but it was only filled with a knife, my multi tool for rebuilding the fence, my canteen, and Hershel's bible that he had just given me. I felt Daryl's arms wrap around me, his head being placed lightly on my shoulder. I looked around, smiling a bit. "Where's Carol?" I asked. Rick was standing beside us and heard me, looking at Daryl. "I think now aught to be as good a time as any, to tell Tyrese." Daryl grumbled. "Where is sh-" I stopped, gulping. I knew Carol was willing to do some bad things, but this was pretty awful. Daryl's grip on me released, and I could tell he was beating himself up just a bit. He cared about the woman. Maybe not in the same way he does me, but in a lot of ways she meant quite a bit to him. He and Rick began walking away, and I quickly followed. Once it was only us three in the halls and Rick was ahead of us, I slipped my hand into Daryl's. "You okay?" He sort of pushed me off, and I sighed. He was upset, it was completely understandable. I mean, he just didn't wanna be all couple-like. I wasn't too bothered by it. As we walked in, I just stood in the corner. "Look! Someone's been feeding the walkers at the fence. I think it might have been the same one that killed Karen!" Rick shook his head a moment, thinking of how to say it. I glanced over at Daryl, seeing a guilty look on his face. "Look, Tyrese I-" The walls and ground shook as we heard a roar of an explosion outside. I fell to the ground, quickly pushing myself back up and taking off ahead of all of the boys.

I felt my jaw drop at what was in front of me. "I'm looking for Rick Grimes!" He yelled. I gulped, running and grabbing a gun from the bin. "I... I'm not in charge anymore! There's a board!" The disgrace of a man chuckled. "Is Hershel on the bored? How about Michonne?" I felt my eyes grow wide as they brought out both of them, their hands tied behind their backs. Michonne looked utterly ashamed of herself, and Hershel looked... Well, I don't know how to explain it. "We have a board now to make decisions!" The Governor shook his head. "Well aren't you the head of it! If not, you are today!" "I'm only the co-leader." I silently gulped, knowing exactly what was about to happen. "Well, then why don't you and whoever else is the leader come down here and talk to me like some men!" Rick looked at me apologetically, but I only glared in the direction of the small army.

I felt my feet moving, but every ounce of sense in my body said I shouldn't have been. The scum in front of me smirked a bit. "Hello Katherine." I felt my eyebrows furrow, and my grip on the large gun in my hands tightened. "What do you want?"

He explained what he wanted. He wanted the prison... But I knew that wasn't all he craved. He wanted to see us fall, to watch us hit a depression. The fact that he held Michonne's sword to Hershel's throat said that loud and clear. Rick began talking, but my eyes only met with Hershel's. I despised this man with every ounce of my being, but I knew the only way to save them was to try and pretend I didn't. "Michonne and I, Hershel and I, you and I, can't live together." The governor argued. He looked at me. "Katherine, will ne-" "We can fix it." I butted in, my eyes still locked with Hershel's. I drew them to the governor. "What's been done, we can fix it. We've all done the worst kinds of things. We've all done things that we just want to forget about, and you know what? I think we can. In the end, we get to come back from all this. We've done what was needed to survive, but we can... We have to, come back from it." The governor began to lower the sword and Hershel smiled a bit at me. But it all happened so fast. I had no idea that such a small word could start such a massive eruption of battle. I had absolutely no clue that one word, said by a man that had already hurt everyone I ever loved in some way, could completely destroy every last inch of hope the prison ever had for survival. "Liar."
