Some people had already grown accustomed to the constant noise outside the base. It had been 13 days since the man in black had been fighting relentlessly, cutting down zombies, Mad-P and Mad-A creatures that swarmed nonstop. Some soldiers, instead of fearing the attacks, took the opportunity to observe his fighting techniques, hoping to learn from him.
Unfortunately for Yang Yifei, the attacks didn’t come from just one direction. One moment, the threat would be on the east side of the base, and an hour later, another enemy force would emerge from the west. With the base being as massive as it was, he found himself constantly sprinting across it, barely getting a moment to rest. Over time, he figured out a way to summon weapons to different locations, allowing him to take down multiple threats simultaneously.
The biggest problem, however, was the Mad-P surrounding the base. The cursed plants would lash out at him, their vines attempting to pull him in and devour him whole. Frustrated, he eventually resorted to burning and destroying large portions of the surrounding fields just to clear a path.
On top of all this, some people still needed to enter and leave the base, adding another responsibility to his already overwhelming tasks. Luckily, those inside helped by scouting and locating incoming enemies, reducing his workload—at least slightly.
Now, drenched in sweat and barely able to stand, Yang Yifei collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily. His body screamed in exhaustion, but he had no choice but to push through.
"Jian~! Good work!" Lin's cheerful voice rang out as he approached, followed by Kwan Tao, who immediately cast a spell, cleansing Yang Yifei of dirt and sweat.
"That was an incredible battle." Kwan Tao said, his eyes sparkling with admiration. "I didn’t know someone could fight like that for so long."
Lin knelt beside Yang Yifei and handed him a sandwich, smiling sweetly. "I made your favorite." he said, ready to pass him a bottle of water when needed.
Just as Yang Yifei took a bite, Kwan Tao glanced at his phone. His expression changed.
"Oh… looks like more beasts have appeared in the southeast sector of the base."
Yang Yifei let out a long sigh, his exhaustion evident. Without a word, he lifted his hand, and in an instant, hundreds of weapons materialized in the targeted area. As if on cue, they fired in unison, tearing through the new wave of enemies.
He had grown stronger. The constant battles had sharpened his abilities, and by now, he was used to the near-endless waves of attacks.
After all, for 23 out of 24 hours each day, the war never stopped.
Yang Yifei had been surviving on nothing but coffee, Kwan Tao’s spells and the scientist's candies—specially made to keep someone awake without sleep. But even those weren’t enough to keep the exhaustion at bay.
Dark circles were deeply etched under his eyes, and every now and then, a sharp headache would pulse through his skull from the stress and lack of rest.
Feeling the tension in his shoulders, Lin stepped behind him and began to massage his back. His hands worked carefully over the knots in Yang Yifei’s muscles, and for the first time in days, the man sighed, his head tilting back slightly.
Lin paused, mesmerized. With his head tilted back, Yang Yifei's sharp jawline and well-defined features were fully exposed under the dim lighting. He was breathtakingly handsome.
A blush crept up Lin’s cheeks as an idea struck him. Slowly, he leaned in, lowering his face toward Yang Yifei’s lips.
