The silence of the deepening ocean wrapped around the Thousand Sunny as it sank lower and lower into the abyss. Outside the shimmering coating that enveloped the ship like a protective bubble, the underwater world revealed itself.
"The surface is so far away...!" Robin murmured, her voice contemplative, her eyes reflecting the drifting schools of glowing fish outside.
Franky leaned forward, his sunglasses reflecting the marine life swirling just beyond the transparent coating. "It's beautiful! You can't get a window this big on a submarine, that's for sure!" he laughed.
Near the rail, Chopper clung to it tightly, his tiny hooves trembling slightly as he looked down into the seemingly bottomless void below them. "We're sinking further and further down! Is the water really not gonna get in!? It's kinda scary!" he squeaked, sweat forming on his furry brow, anxiety written all over his face.
"It feels as though we're leaving the human world behind..." Nami said softly, her tone dreamy yet edged with awe. She pressed her palm against the bubble, eyes wide as she watched the gentle current sway massive strands of seaweed and the glowing jellyfish drifting lazily past them. "This is so exciting..."
"W...W...W...We will be able to get back to the surface, right!?" Usopp's voice cracked slightly as he darted his eyes from the fish to the fading light above. His knees wobbled beneath him. "I mean...! I...It's not as though I'm scared or anything, but..."
"The sea sure is pretty!!" Luffy beamed, his wide grin practically splitting his face. His eyes sparkled as he pressed his face against the bubble, watching a group of colorful fish dart by in perfect unison.
"Take a look over to that side, it's a root," Y/N pointed out, nodding toward a massive, tendril that coiled through the ocean like a serpent.
"That's right. The Sabaody Archipelago is actually a forest of giant mangroves after all..." Sanji said, his tone calm, almost reverent, as he lit a cigarette and glanced toward the spiraling roots anchoring the island to the seabed.
"The wonder of nature in all its glory!" Brook chimed in, his hollow laugh echoing strangely in the quiet air.
"I've seen it already," Zoro muttered with a shrug, arms crossed as he leaned against the mast, unfazed by the view.
"Yeah, when you got in the wrong ship! Shut up! We're trying to be awed here!" Sanji snapped at him, spinning around with an annoyed glare.
"Forget that, there's something behind us!" Usopp suddenly shouted, his finger trembling as he pointed at the looming shadow that approached—a monstrous fish easily twenty times larger than the Sunny, gliding toward them.
"These roots must reach all the way to the seabed..." Robin whispered, her voice laced with amazement as her eyes followed the endless descent of the mangrove roots. "They're sheer... impossible to put into words..."
"Man, this is exciting!" Luffy shouted, bouncing on his heels. "A grand adventure in the ocean depths! It's like a dream!! Ooh! Fish! I can almost reach them! Get here, you!!" He lunged suddenly at the coating, palms slamming against the bubble as he tried to grab one of the fish swimming just out of reach.
"!!" Usopp's eyes popped open in sheer terror, his jaw falling slack.
"There are some tasty looking ones over here too..." Y/N said with a mischievous grin, placing his hand with a bit too much force on the bubble.
"Yeah," Zoro grinned back, hand drifting toward the hilt of his katana.
"!!?" Chopper screeched, eyes bulging out as panic overtook him. He and Usopp moved in a blur and smacked the three of them upside the head.
