Chapter 2

I pushed my empty plate away from me in the universal gesture of ‘I am done’. As I was doing this, I smiled at Mrs. Miller to convey my thanks and to let her know that it was delicious. When she saw this she said, “You’re welcome, and I’m glad you liked it!”

Once everybody was finished, I dragged Liam’s lazy butt up so we could do the dishes. “Awwww, do we have to?” he asked in a whiny voice. I nodded my head firmly and he seemed to give up, knowing that there was no way I was going to eat dinner at somebody else’s house and not do the dishes for them.

As always, I washed the dishes, and Liam dried and put them away. Suddenly I got an idea, and was giggling quietly to myself but apparently not quiet enough, because Liam turned to me with a look that said, ‘What is so funny?’ I grabbed up some soap bubbles from the sink and blew them in his face. He looked at me, outraged, and said, “Oh, so you want to do this?” I nodded, giggling, once again. “Okay then! This is war!” he grabbed a huge handful of bubbles that he threw directly in my face.

I reached over, slowly bringing the spray thing that was also attached to the sink, giving him enough time to grab something to shield himself with if he was smart enough. He wasn’t. When I was through spraying him, laughing, I saw him spluttering and wiping the water off his face. I had to close my eyes because I was laughing so hard. Suddenly, I felt a towel smack my butt, and let me tell you, it hurt! I turned around to face a triumphant smile on Liam’s face. I sneakily took another towel off the counter beside me, and smacked him in the stomach.

We went on like for a couple more minutes, until his mom came in and seeing the bubbles and water all over her kitchen yelled, “What did you two do?!” I looked at her and gravely pointed at Liam to show that he started it.

“W-w-what?! Are you kidding me?! You started it by blowing the bubbles in my face!”

I looked at him like he insane, and it took everything I had in me to not crack up laughing at his face. Apparently though, Mrs. Miller didn’t want to hear who started it. She looked at both of us sternly and commanded, “Clean it up, both of you!” Liam and I hung our heads in shame to appease her, and when she was satisfied that we were sorry, she stormed out of the room.

When she was gone, we looked at each other and bust out laughing. His laugh was loud, but not loud enough to bring his mom back, and deep. Mine, on the other hand, was only as loud as if I was whisper-laughing.

We slowly got back to work, and in about 15 minutes we had the kitchen back to normal, and about 10 minutes later, all the dishes were clean and out away.
