Chapter - 8 (Drunk Manik)

On the Road :
Manik was rotted on his spot..looking at nandini with
shock ..placing his hand on his cheek..NO! he wasn't
expecting this slap...atleast not now..while she was
glaring at him..
Nandini : "how dare you touch alcohol manik.."...she
shouted on peak of her voice..and he was more shocked
now..
Nandini : "answer me damn it..."...she again shouted
and this time..while grabbing his collar..now he was
looking in her eyes..to figure out..is she is really
real?..is he is dreaming?...is she really caring for
him?..some time back..she said that nandini is
dead..then who is this nandini..standing in front of
him..shouting..just like she used to shout
earlier..whenver he intake alcohol..
Nandini : "you had promised me..that you won't drink
ever..atleast kahi toh apni bato pe stick raho
manik.."..she shouted looking in her eyes..her eyes
were teary..he touched her face lovingly..and wiped off
tears from them..
Manik : "am sorry.."...he said holding her ears instead
of his..and she reminisced how he always used to hold
HER ears instead of HIS..while saying sorry..she
instantly jerked him and made him apart from her..he
was again very numb to react..
Nandini : "go back home..manik..you are drunk.."...she
said while looking downwards..he descended the
distance between them and came closer...
Manik : "no...am not drunk..don't you know..Manik
malhotra never get drunk..."...he said in a babyish
tone..and it takes only a second for her to realize that
he isn't in his senses anymore..he was looking at her
with a stupid smile ..
Nandini : "Manik is hard to handle...but drunk Manik is
next to impossible.."..she murmured under her
breath..but he listen this..
Manik : "but you have the capability to make impossible
also possible.."...he said with a big grin and she
mentally slapped her faith..as why she always stuck in
such situations..
Nandini(s.t) : "whenever am running away..from
something..then only everything start chasing
me.."...she thought while looking at manik..who was
moving his index finger on her bangles..holding her
hand in his..
Manik : "you know..i love your bangles"..he said while
making a sound from them..she took her hand back..
Nandini : "manik..behave yourself.."...she said while
making him stand straight..
Manik : "are..why you jerked my hand..mai bangles
count karha tha na.."..he said making a cute pout and
again held her hand...she let it be..as arguing with
him..is liking beating your head on wall..so she choses
to be silent..
Nandini (s.t) : "i just hope..yeh raat jaldi khatam ho
jaaye..it is the toughest night for me.."...she said while
looking at him..who was counting her bangles..
Destiny have some other plans..for them..the night
hasn't over yet..And it start Raining heavily..they both
start drenching..Manik was enjoying the rain very
much..
Nandini : "manik..come.just sit inside the
car..come.."...she said while dragging him with her but
he wasn't interested..as he was enjoying the rain..she
took him forcefully..
They came near the car and asked keys from
Manik..what he start moving his body in a right and
left..like a pendulum and was smiling foolishly..she was
getting irritated by each passing second..
Nandini : "manik ..keys do..otherwise am going ..and
you stay here.."...she said while faking a walk away
from him..but he held her wrist and said..
Manik : "tussi ja rahe ho...tussi na jao.."...he said in a
very cute tone..making a pout..and she instantly turned
around reminiscing something..
Nandini : "manik keys.."...she again asked holding back
her thoughts..he showed her his pockets..that they are
empty..
Manik : "woh mai..key..car mai bhul gaya.."..he said
looking down..like a notorious kid was about to get
scolding from his teacher..
Nandini : "you are impossible.."...she said while glaring
at him..and the rain was increasing only..she was
thinking what to do..then she observed manik again on
the mid road..playing in rain..opening his arms..and
taking rounds..looking upwards..with closed eyes..she
smiled a bit..but soon her eyes became teary..
Nandini : "why you did THAT manik?...hum kitne khush
the...why you did all that?..."...she said while looking at
his smiling face...tears rolled down from her eyes and
instantly wiped them off..and came towards him..to
take him with her...but he jerked her hand from his
wrist..
She glared at him..but he made her smile by creating a
gesture of SMILE PLEASE with his hands...and for
sometime..she forgot all..their dreadful past..and joined
him..
And he start singing while coming towards the car..
Kabhi aayine pe likha tujhe,

(he sang..while writing her name on the glass of
car..and then wiped them off...he lean on the car's
window..and closed his eyes..she came towards
him..and he held her hand..and yanked her closer..)

(he sang with love filled eyes ..looking in her eyes..she
was drowning in his passion filled eyes..then he picked

(he put her down and cupped her face..a tear fell down
from his eyes..she can see longing in his eyes..they
both were looking in each other eyes..)

(he sang while looking in her eyes and kissed her
forehead..he wiped her tears from her cheeks..she
closed her eyes..then again..she looked in her
eyes..making her believe on his each n every word..)

(she moved out of his grip and stand a far away from
him..he sang while looking at her...he opened her arms
to her...and she came running in his arms..he picked
her a little up..and twirled her around..)

(he realized..it was just a dream..she was still standing
a little far away from..facing her back to him..but his
words made her turned around..their were some
distance in between them..)

was also in tears looking at him like this..but she can't
also help it...she is bounded with a lot..he has once
snatched her soul from her..she can't once again loose
herself to him..but his words were making her
loose..she was having tough time standing there in
front of him..)

(he knows ..she won't come running to him..so he
himself ran towards her..and engulfed her in his
arms..tightly..to soothe his soul...the make himself

him back..but she hold her hands in mid way..and didn't
requited back..)
Manik was still hugging him tight..but she was standing
there ..like a pillar..to which..you can hold..but it won't
hold you back..
Manik : "i miss you maa.."...he said while rubbing his
cheek on her shoulder..her eyes turned watery...if this
happened 3 years back..Nandini must be beating him
very badly..for calling her maa..but see..that cruel
game of destiny..the word which used to irritate her so
much..is now giving tears in her eyes..she isn't angry
on manik for calling her maa..but she is feeling helpless
for not able to behave same like before..
He broke the hug..and cupped her face..both were
looking in each other eyes..
Manik : "you remember..mai jab bhi tumhe maa bolta
tha..tum kese gussa ho jati thi.."...he said with a
smile..but she was quiet...
and he continued..."aur tumhari yeh nose..bilkul red ho
jati thi...i loved to see you angry..pata hai..mai
intentionally tumhe pareshan karta tha..kyunki jab tum
mujhe maarne ke liye bhagti thi na..tab tum bahut cute
lagti thi.."...he said while pulling her cheeks...and she
start reminiscing their past moments..
PAST- 3 YEARS BACK..
Nandini is in college..there was a college fest..and
everyone was busy in the preparations..Nandini was in
the rehearsal hall..instructing all the participants..just
then a girl (one of the crew)..came to
nandini..running...
Girl : "nandini..manik ab tak college nahi aaya.."...she
said with a tense look ..
Nandini : "are..ab tak nahi aaya..usne toh kaha tha 15
min mei college pahuch jaega.."...she said with equal
worry..
Girl : "wahi toh..aur ab uska phone bhi unreachable
hai..please do something..pehli performance usi ki
hai.."...she told nandini and she assured her..that she
will do something..and girl left..
Nandini came out of rehearsal hall..and made a call to
manik..but phone was still unreachable..
Nandini : "kaha gaya ..yeh ladka..."...she said while
placing her mobile on her chin and one hand on her
waist..
Then she thought to call his best buddy..and it was
CABIR..so she made a call to him..
Nandini : "hey..cabir..ummm...manik kaha hai.."..she
asked him..
Cabir : "i don't know..am on my way to college..uske
ghar bhi gaya tha mai..but he isn't there..kyu college
nahi aaya kya?.."..
Nandini : "nahi aaya..tabhi to puch rahi hoon..koi
nahi..you come asap.."...and she hanged up the call...
She was in deep thoughts..just then someone came
from behind ..and shouted "bhooowww"..in her
ears..she got terrified and instantly turned around..and
there HE IS..smiling broadly..
Nandini : "maniiikkk.."..she shouted and punched him in
his stomach...
Manik : "aowww.."...he hissed in pain...
Nandini : "where the hell were you?..hannn...and phone
kaha hai tumhara..tumhe yaad bhi hai ..tumhari
performance hai first..aur tum he gayab ho..are you
nuts..can't you be responsible for sometime..."...she
said in a breath..while giving slaps on his shoulder
every now n then..and he was rolling his eyes
upwards..bearing her wrath..
Manik : "ho gaya..ya aur bhi kuch baki hai.."...he said
leaning a little close to her face..and she instantly
slapped on his cheek...and he got stunned..
Manik : "yaar..kya karhi ho..thodi toh respect do
mujhe..atleast ..look all around..we are in
college..sabke samne thappad.."..he said out of
shock..then he composed himself..as everyone were
looking at the duo..with a grin..
Nandini : "you deserve a loads of slaps.."...she said
while crossing her hands around her body..
Manik : wrapped his arms around her shoulder and they
start walking.."are yar..itna tension kyu leti ho tum..mai
hoon na..i will handle all.."...
Nandini : "jerked his hand from her shoulder..and
stopped "kesa tension na loon..you toh never pay any
heed to anything..and sab mujhe karna padta
hai..manik..be responsible.."...
Manik : "ufffooo! maa..you are impossible..always in
tension.."..he said rolling his eyes upwards..now
nandini got really angry on him..
Nandini : "how dare you call me maa..tumne fir maa
bola..this time am not gonna leave you.."...manik's
eyes popped out..and he start running..while she was
chasing him..whole college was witnessing these tom n
jerry...
Well! it's not new for them..as Manik and Nandini is
quiet famous for their so called tom n jerry fights..every
day..it's a common scenario...that manik running for
his life..while nandini chasing him..It's just a 1 year of
college..and Manik and Nandini has became the best
buddies..
Manik was running in the open area of college and
nandini was behind him..just then manik saw cabir and
instantly hide behind him..
Manik : "thanks for coming bro..warna aaj toh mai sach
mei gaya tha.."...he said while making cabir as a
shield..
Nandini came towards them while running..
Nandini : "cabir...side mei ho jao..aaj i won't leave
him.."..she said while trying to grab Manik from behind
cabir..but all her efforts in vain..
Cabir : "oooyye..mujhe mat involve kar in sab
mei..please mujhe meri jaan pyaari hai.."..he said while
trying to get off himself from manik's tight hold..as
manik was holding him from his shoulder..hiding behind
him..
Cabir : "wese aaj kya kia isne.."...he asked nandini..
Nandini : "he again called me maa..mai ise maa dikhti
hu..leave cabir..otherwise i will kill you as well.."...she
threatened him badly..and he really got scared..
Cabir : "dude..please i love my life..chor yaar..."...he
said again trying to leave..
Manik : "salle..kesa dost hai..dost ke liye..jaan bhi nahi
de sakta.."..he said in a dramatic tone..
Just then ..Nandini heard the announcement..that she
has been needed in rehearsal hall...
Nandini : "bach gaye tum aaj..manik malhotra..but next
time if you call me maa..i will surely kill you.."..she
said pointing her finger on him..and left from there..
Now..Manik took a sigh of relief..and came out from
behind Cabir..he instantly slapped on Manik's back..
Cabir : "kyu pareshan karta hai use.."..he asked..while
manik smiled..looking in her direction..as she was
walking..towards rehearsal hall..
Manik : "because i love it.."...he said with a grin..
Cabir : "acha..aur tu use maa kyu bolta hai..'..he again
asked..
Manik : now looked at him "yeh tu itna C.B.I ki tarah
questions kyu karha hai..."..
Cabir : "are bata na.."..manik wrapped his hand around
his shoulder and both start walking..
Manik : "Are yaar..pure time lecture deti rehti hai..pure
time dantti rehti hai..itna toh meri khudki maa bhi nahi
kehti kuch..and jab wo worry karti hai..she behave like
she is my mother..aur tu sunna kabhi use..she really
sounds like a mother..whenever she scold me..ab meri
so called biological MOM ne toh kabhi kuch kaha
nahi..so..just to irritate her..i call her maa..aur jab bhi
mai use maa bolta hoon na..just look at her
face..aankhei ek dum badi badi kar leti hai..and face pe
itna gussa..jese abhi kha jaengi mujhe..."...he ended
and both start laughing loud..
Cabir : "woh to pakka..kha jaegi tujhe kisi din.."...he
said in between the laugh and Manik laughed loud they
both entered inside the jam room..

Nandini eyes were all teary till now..but she composed
herself and Manik was busy in playing with her hairs..he
was busy in binding her hair strands in his finger..she
look at him..
Nandini : "manik..we can't stay here all night.."..she
said making him move a little away from her..
Manik : "fir hum kahi bhaag jaate hai..what say?.."...he
said decreasing the distance..with a grin ..and wide
eyes..
Nandini : "am not joking.."..she said in a stern voice..he
look in her eyes..and hold her tightly by her waist..
Manik : "jab pehle mai tumhari aankhon mei dekhta..tab
kitna kuch hota tha in mei..but ab..ab in mei kuch kyu
nahi dikhta mujhe.."...he said looking in her eyes..with a
pout..like a baby complaining..
Nandini : "because..tumne kabhi theek se dekha he
nahi.."..she said with pain in her voice..and he start
drowning in her eyes..
Nandini pushed him a little..and start looking for some
hotel..as she can't take him with her..but Manik came
behind her and hold her hand..and made her look at
him..
Manik : "mat jao na mujhe chorke.."...he said making a
baby face..with babyish face..a tear rolled down from
her blank pale face..
Nandini : "mai tumhe kabhi chorke gayi he nahi thi..wo
tum the..jisne mujhe chor diya tha.."...she said with
utmost pain in her voice..and jerked his hands from her
shoulder..
Suddenly she saw a HOTEL DECENT...she dragged
Manik inside..as leaving him in such state can be
dangerous..and deep down she knows..she still cares
for him..so they both entered inside the hotel..
But..is this night..is really easy for them..well
no!...when we think..it's the end of everything..it
actually starts from there..so what has destiny planned
for these do messed souls..who neither wants to be
together...nor wants to be apart...there life was like
roller coaster ride..but what this night has in store for
them?...is night going to clear some mess...or this
night will create a more mess in their already messed
live...
