Nathan POV:
North is exceedingly blustery. He tries to blame everyone for Luke and Sang getting ill, which causes Gabe to make himself scarce. I'm just glad I wasn't tasked with getting Luke washed, changed and back in bed. As soon as both Peanut and Luke are settled into bed, Silas and North take charge, sending me off to retrieve flu medicine and ingredients for soup."
Kota chooses to come with, instead of sticking around the big grumpy assed bear. Ah. I bet that's North's animal. Come to think of it, Peanut's stumpy, horn, and gray comments probably relate to that too. "So, Si is the rhinoceros," I say trying to keep us awake. He cocks his head a bit in confusion, but quickly catches on to my train of thought.
"That makes sense, I guess. Si's never going to live that down," Kota chuckles and turns onto the highway.
We make good time once we reach main thoroughfares. No one else in their right minds are out at this time of night. A quick glance at the clock has me amending that statement to 'this time of morning'. It's a bit after one, and only a few places will have everything we need. We pull into the 24 hour megastore and make quick work filling the cart with everything we could possibly need.
"We should ask Doc if it's too late to give them Tamiflu or some other antiviral stuff before it's too late," I suggest, pulling out my phone.
"I already spoke with Mr. Blackbourne about it. He's bringing them some in the morning when someone relieves him with Doc," Kota says. "He doesn't really need to stay with him, but I think they're scheming. Probably not the best place to do it, but they have their own code they never taught us," he continues while scanning and bagging our items at the self-checkout.
Kota pays, then wheels the cart out to his car. The drive back is quiet, and we listen to the radio without talking. Once back at the house, Kota and I carry in the bags and put away the groceries. North wanders out of Sang's bedroom looking ready to pass out.
"Did you get everything?" he asks before opening the fridge and checking for himself. I roll my eyes, but answer anyway.
"Yes mother, everything on your list, plus things we thought of while there. Do you know how many different types of cough syrup there are?" I complain tiredly while running my hand through my hair.
North shoots me a dark look but goes back to his business. Kota wanders off into the sickroom, and talks quietly. I hear Silas' voice rumble, and realize that he hasn't left them yet. Vic surprises the shit out of me when he comes through the door from outside. He looks exhausted; his hair is messy, and his dress shirt and slacks are rumpled.
"The motion sensors are in place, as well as the cameras. I think we have the entire boundary of the property covered one way or the other," he mumbles through a yawn.
I had completely forgotten about setting up all of our security equipment with all of the hubbub. We also planned to set up cameras at the entryways inside the house as well as at the outside doors or portals of each room. I believe that Kota was supposed to do that earlier, so it should be done. Luckily, with it just being us here, and not our families, there's no reason for cameras to be in rooms where privacy is needed.
"Alright, let's all get some rest. We can take turns with Sang and Luke, but we really need to keep ourselves healthy," Kota yawns as he strides through again. He grabs a pitcher of water with ice cubes bobbing inside before heading back to Peanut's room.
Silas wanders out next and puts a kettle on to boil. After grabbing half a dozen bags of tea, the bottle of honey, and setting them on a tray with two spoons, he reaches into a high cupboard for a thermos. He looks exhausted. I go through a mental checklist of areas to sleep, and figure some of us will have to sleep on the floor. I don't think anyone is planning on sleeping in the bed with our sick people.
