Baby Steps

When she takes her first breath,
and you see her for the first time.
You can't believe she's in your life,
her cries are rhythms and rhymes.

You hold her in your arms,
and thank God for her existence.
You shed a tear of appreciation,
losing yourself in her trance.

You see her grow up fast,
she walks before your eyes.
You feed her yourself,
after several attempts and tries.

But she eats by herself,
there's nothing she can't do.
She goes to school and studies
just to impress you.

The days go by however,
and she's as moody as can be.
She traps herself in her room,
and all she does is weep.

You always make the wrong move,
nothing is satisfactory.
Sometimes you make it worse,
because you two never agree.

Deep down however,
you know you can help her.
You'll be her Daddy and she your little girl,
the happy two people you once were.
