I Forgot

My eyes are the same,
but they see different things.
Everything has faded to black,
because my memories grew wings.

What once was my family,
is now a strange crowd.
I can't remember a thing,
and my thoughts are rather loud.

Who is this young lady,
waking me in the morning?
She holds a cup of water,
her eyes are hopeful, sparkling and soaring.

I arise from my position,
and I sit on my bed.
I don't know this pretty girl,
but I take the water instead.

"Good morning," she says,
handing me two pills.
Medicine bottles are everywhere,
and sticking out of the drawer is a bill.

I don't know what to say,
so I swallow the pills quickly.
She helps me rise to my feet,
and I understand why when I feel prickly.

We walk through the empty halls,
and stop by a couple of picture frames.
She shows me smiling siblings,
and many others with names.

I'm guided to a table,
where the breakfast lies.
The girl cuts up my food,
and feeds me she tries.

I go to the bathroom,
and she helps me clean my hands.
When I look in the mirror,
I do not know who I am.

Gray is what I see,
like I'm fading to nothingness.
I am wrinkles and skin,
but is there something I missed?

Soon I am on the porch,
questioning this weird world.
Is the Earth greying like me,
and do I look like a Herald?

I don't know if things have changed,
and I don't recall my name, Oh Lord.
Nothing is ever for sure,
because I stopped remembering since 1994.
