Body Image

I didn't used to like this body,
not one trait from head to toe;
not the invisible gap between my thighs,
and not my small belly rolls.

Standing in front of mirrors,
I despised my large hips;
my jeans would never fit
my damn curves and dips.

My lips were too thin,
my hair line too low;
nothing looked right,
my arms I'd never show.

An image I had in mind,
a body beyond belief;
thoughts of thin waists
would give me much relief.

Armor surrounded my body,
but it wasn't needed one bit;
because my body was a jewel,
I just needed eyes to see it.

I had to love my body,
and my freckled back;
I had to love myself,
and the gap I lack.
