The first heat is something that happens to omegas who are mated to an alpha. This is to ensure that a future alpha has a mate before he becomes an alpha.
Only the Alphas are able to find a mate at the age of 10.
Every other werewolf, do experience a mate call when they turn 18. Either they choose to go and find their mate or not its ones choice.
The omegas who are mated to any dominant wolf (not an alpha) do experience heat once they find their mate. After mating, a mate tattoo is visible on their skin.
