RECAP: …………………………………………………………………………..

He just felt so right… I could let myself relax for the first time in months….

A human man would never be able to stand my grip … they’d be wincing in pain … but he seemed to relish it, growling in response.

Then he broke away from the kiss and I felt myself whimper at the loss of contact, before he took my bottom lip in his teeth, making me moan and dig my nails into his arms and reach up to pull on his hair roughly.

Mmmm …It felt so good to let my guard down… to not pretend I was entirely human….

Some promises are sooooo worth breaking.

Marina’s Pov :

I smiled politely at Serena as she told me about the sudden biology pop quiz that Mr Mathewson had told her class they were doing tomorrow, laughing slightly as she ran her hand through her light brown hair and made an over exaggeratedly pained face.

All the time I found myself briefly snatching glances at Marli on the other side of the garden, moving along the buffet slowly, seemingly lost in her thoughts as she picked up food.

I let my gaze sweep over her, taking in how my best friend had changed over the last year. Her straight blonde hair seemed slightly luminous under the fairy lights and her simple white dress fitted to her taller frame, which she held with what appeared to be quiet confidence. She also seemed to have lost weight with her growth, making her limbs lean and graceful in the tell tale way I’ve come to know well. Her whole figure seemed to exude subtle power, the kind of underlying physical strength that would make most of our community balk at crossing her in a bar brawl.

It made me think of Marli’s mother, with her kind smile and understanding eyes, which held a similar inner strength that made her a force to be reckoned with.

I’d never seen her shout but I remember her talking to my father once, having a debate over politics at a dinner party, and she seemed to rival my father in presence despite her smaller frame.

With a man as powerful in our community as my father, it’s no mean feat.

I hadn’t noticed until tonight, when Ryan had stupidly tried to argue with Marli, that she also had that same power. Her frustrated and tired face rippled across my mind like a bad dream, the unmistakable energy that she’d unleashed echoed through me.

It was undeniable. I couldn’t believe I’d not noticed it before, when she first arrived back in town.

My gaze flickered over to Marli again, before I looked back to Serena, laughing as she told me rude joke about Mr Mathewson’s bald patch.
