Forty Four

"Yachi-san!" The said girl turned around and shrieked when she found Hinata jumping in the air. Her face turned blue at the surprise greeting from the ginger decoy, taking a step back with her hand over her chest.

"You scared her, you dumbass." Kageyama said, hitting the back of Hinata's head as he landed back on the ground. The shorter male held his head in pain, glaring at the setter with the most intimidating look he could make.

"As if you're one to talk," Hinata said, earning a cold glare from Kageyama.

"Hah? What was that?" Kageyama squeezed Hinata's head, digging his fingers into the poor ginger's scalp. Hinata struggled under his grips, trying to pry his fingers off him.

"Your face is probably scaring her more!" The Middle Blocker managed.

Yachi moved her gaze back and forth between Kageyama and Hinata, her knees knocking against each other in fear. She tried to reach out to them with shaky hands, trying to stop them both from arguing. "P-Please d-d-don't f-fight..." She stuttered, afraid that if she said the wrong thing, she might get herself hurt too.

The 2 first years shot one final glare at each other before taking in their new manager's words. They exchanged a quick 'hmph' and turned their attention to Yachi, who felt slightly relieved that they were no longer arguing. "What brings you here, Hinata-kun, Kageyama-kun?"

"Oh!" Hinata brightened up, an imaginary light bulb lighting up by his head. "We just decided to say hi. After all, you're a part of our team now!"

"Oh, right..." Yachi nodded, the smile on her face slightly dull.

"What's wrong?" Hinata titled his head at the girl who didn't seem as excited as he had anticipated her to be.

"I-It's nothing!" Yachi waved her hands before her defensively.

"Are you feeling doubting yourself?" Kageyama asked. Yachi flinched at his question, surprised by how he had seen through her so quickly. She lowered her head, nodding slowly. Her mind wandered back to yesterday, when she was first introduced as the newest manager of the Karasuno Boys' Volleyball Club.

"Ohh!" Tanaka and Nishinoya cheered, pumping their fists in the air, startling Yachi. "Three pretty managers! We're lucky!" Yachi's cheeks flushed at the word 'pretty'.

"That's great Yachi-san!" Hinata bounced into the air in excitement. Yachi was too overwhelmed with the bright energy of the team and trembled with the most terrified expression on her face, wanting to hide behind Kiyoko once more.

"Ah, well..." Kiyoko put her hands out defensively, trying to stop the crowd from scaring the poor first year too much."Actually..." The boys stopped their cheering at the beauty's solemn tone. "We're not going to have three managers..." They blinked at her, confused by what she meant. Sugawara parted his lips and was about to ask her what she meant when she spoke again, looking down to her feet.

"[Name] is quitting the volleyball team as a manager."

The team gasped, completely taken aback by the sudden announcement. Even Coach Ukai and Takeda exchanged surprised looks, never guessing that the girl would decide to quit out of the blue.

"N-No way..." Nishinoya exclaimed, staring at Kiyoko. "You're joking right?" Kiyoko shook her head apologetically. Yachi was no longer trembling behind her, instead she couldn't help but to feel sad at their reaction, although she wasn't quite sure what was going on either.
