Chapter 17

As Aislinn dreamt, her mind was plagued with images of fire and death; the deaths of those closet to her on a constant replayed loop. Her eyes shot open when she felt a hand on her shoulder and arms wrapped around her. " It's alright" Elijah told her and she squeezed her eyes shut." He's dead, isn't he"

" Yes" He responded." And Rebekah has dealt with Alaric and Elena."

" What do you...No" She said shaking her head and trying to pull away but he held her . " I'm sorry Aislinn, their both gone."

" No" She screamed struggling against him and after a few minutes he pulled her back enough to meet her gaze." Calm down" He whispered.

" Why are you here?" She asked once she was calm and he let go of her.

" The dreams that you've experienced will only be the beginning. "

" The beginning of what?"

Instead of answering, he reached forward to trace the scars on her face with his thumb and confusion crossed her face." Sleep now" He compelled and her eyes fluttered closed as he carefully pulled the blanket over her. " I'm glad that I got to meet you Aislinn, your a rare light in this dark world." He whispered to her before placing a kiss on her head and leaving the room. 

Aislinn's POV

" Thanks Jeremy" I told him as he opened my car door.

" Anytime"

I placed a hand on his shoulder as we started into the church where a memorial service was being held for the 12 council members who had died in a gas explosion. When it started, the mayor asked if anyone wanted to come and say a few words. Elena, who I had been told was a vampire now, volunteered but halfway through her speech I heard something hit the bowl of holy water at the back of the room. " Nobody move. Don't turn around" I heard Damon whisper and I let out a sigh when the dripping continued. " She's gonna blow"

Stefan led her back to her seat next to Matt who was next to Jeremy on my left. Everyone started to sing but part way through it Tyler stood up and started to say a few words, which were cut off at the sound of a gun shot. Everyone ran for the exit and Jeremy led me out in the scramble for the door.

Later that night I sat with the others in front of the school. We each lit a lantern for the ones we loved who were gone and released them into the sky. " This is for my uncle Zach. My friend Lexi. For Alaric." Stefan said

" This is for Vickie" Matt told us

" This is for my dad, and Tyler's" Caroline continued

" This is for our parents, for Vickie, Anna, Jenna and Alaric." Jeremy said

Matt helped me light mine as I sighed. " This is for my parents, and for Alaric."

Damon refused to light one before he walked away and Bonnie went next. " This is for my grams"

Last was Elena. " This, um...Is for my mom, my dad, and...Jenna. Everyone that we've all lost; Everyone that this town has lost. And for me."

After releasing them into the sky, Jeremy took me home and I lay awake that night, lost in thought.

" You know, I never signed up for this" I told Klaus, who was still alive apparently.

" Yes well, it's either this or let Elena die a very slow agonizing-"

" Just do it and get it over with" I said cutting him off and he chuckled before I felt a sharp in my wrist. Once he had what he needed, he carefully wrapped a bandage around it. "  I've been having weird dreams lately."

" What about?" He questioned.

" I'm not even sure really" I admitted." I've barely gotten any sleep because of them, and I dozed off in class today. Elijah gave me some cryptic message about them, but-" I was cut off as he suddenly pulled me toward him. " What did he tell you?" He hissed and I frowned" What does it matter?"

" Aislinn." He warned. " What did he tell you?"

" He just said that my dreams would only be the beginning."

He seemed to calm down and I frowned in confusion before I heard him get up and walk away.
