Imagine telling Legolas that you are pregnant
You opened your eyes and squinted as the light entered them. The morning sun shone through the thin curtains, casting calm, serene shadows around your large room. You smiled happily, and snuggled back down into the warm bed. Legolas, feeling your movement, tightened his arm around your waist, pressing his chest against your back. He hummed contentedly, nuzzling your neck with his nose.
"Are you awake, mela (love)?" he whispered into your ear, not wanting to disturb you.
You nodded and made a sort of "Um hmm..." noise, and felt Legolas' grin next to your jaw.
"It's a beautiful day," he muttered, almost to himself, and you murmured in agreement, pulling back the duvets and clambering out of bed.
Legolas rolled onto his back, propping himself up onto his cushions, a small smile playing at his lips. His eyes never left you, and he sighed in disbelief.
"I still can not believe that you are mine," he said, now grinning from ear to ear.
You lifted your left hand to display the dainty, elvish ring that sat comfortably on your third finger, "And I always will be," you responded, smiling.
It was barely a year since your wedding, and you still had to pinch yourself every morning to remind yourself that this, this impossibly perfect creature, was yours and yours alone. You could remember vividly the day when you walked down the aisle, your hair intricately braided and your body coated in the finest elvin silk, ready to meet Legolas, clothed in full elvin glory and grinning like a total idiot.
Smiling to yourself at the memory, you softly padded into the bathroom and closed the door quietly behind you. Letting out a long breath, you removed your flimsy nightgown and grabbed a washcloth and a bowl of water. Your breath quickened and you cautiously washed the cloth gently between your legs, then removed it, inspecting it thoroughly.
Nothing.
Not even the tiniest drop of blood. You were two months late. Having never been a day late in your life, you knew that once you had missed a week, something was not right. You had sworn to tell Legolas after two weeks, then a month, then two. Enough was enough. You had to tell him today, but how?
Your breath quickened, and your vision became blurry, tears filling your eyes. Pregnant? You had never even had a pet before, how could you be expected to look after a new life?
"(Your name)?" called Legolas from outside the door, "Are you well?"
"Yes, yes I'm fine!" you replied, whilst quickly pulling a simple shift dress over your head.
You opened the door and stood face to face with Legolas, his blue eyes looking lovingly into yours.
"I'm afraid I'll have to leave you for today," he said, stroking your face with the back of his hand, "I have very important business to attend to."
He left to go, but you grabbed his upper arm with such force his eyes widened at the contact.
"Sit down," you said, leading him to the bed,"I have something to tell you."
His face was automatically concerned. "What's wrong?" he urged.
"No, no nothing's wrong," you replied, "It's just, I'm, I'm late..."
His brows crinkled in confusion. "Late?" he enquired, "I didn't know you had anywhere to be today..."
"No," you smiled, reaching out to grab his hand, "My cycle. I'm two months late. Legolas, I think I'm pregnant..." your voice trailed off and your heart was beating a samba in your chest.
You heard a low gasp from Legolas, and his grip on your hand tightened. You looked up and met his eyes. They sparkled with a light you had never seen before, and it took you a while to realise that there were tears in them.
"Are you sure?" he asked, his voice barely higher than a whisper.
You nodded and raised your hand to stroke his cheek.
"I am sure," you replied, your voice strong and firm, "You're going to be a father."
"Father." Legolas mouthed the word, no sound coming from his mouth. A small smile tugged at his mouth, and it broadened and broadened until he was grinning so hard you worried his cheeks would rip.
"I'M GOING TO BE A FATHER!" He yelled, his voice echoing around the room, as he grabbed you by the waist and swung you around his body before crushing his lips to yours in a forceful kiss. Soon the kiss turned gentle, and his soft lips made their way to your ear.
"I love you," his voice cracked, full of emotion, "I love you."
"I love you too!" you laughed, breathless, "If I'd have known you would have reacted like this I would have told you earlier."
You both remained in that embrace for a long time, and when you finally broke apart, the fear and worries in your stomach had vanished. You could do this. It would be hard, and you would make mistakes, but Legolas was with you, and together, you could do anything.
Even raise a child.
