Nineteen
Another month or so passed. We decided to move locations so Phoenix couldn't find us again as easily. We hadn't heard about Phoenix in about a month, which was suspicious, but we weren't complaining. We needed to train the Powers, and we couldn't do that with distractions from Phoenix and the Goldbloods.
After a while, people started trusting me again. No one (except possibly Valerie) thought I was evil anymore, and they didn't blame me for the deaths of half of our numbers. At least, if they did, they didn't talk about it anymore.
Lillie started trusting me again, which made me feel better.
I hadn't heard about or found Dorian, but I refused to believe he was dead. I searched continuously around the burned down school, Hushwood Forest, and other places where I suspected he would be. I found nothing, but I didn't give up. He was my little brother; I couldn't just stop looking for him!
Our new camp was almost a great as the school, thanks to my power. It wasn't a building, but we didn't want to attract too much attention to ourselves, so we just stuck with tents.
At the moment, I was walking around town, alone. I needed space from people from time to time, and now was one of those times.
I wrapped my purple sweater around myself, shivering. It was mid-April, but it was cold. Not cold enough for a coat, though.
I walked past a TV store. You know, those ones with the TVs displayed in the front window, showing what was going on in the world. I stopped to watch some, wanting information, possibly about Dorian and/or Phoenix's locations. On the screen was a commercial with kittens in it. I smiled, before the screen went black, and then Phoenix appeared. I gasped, and took a step forward. What's he up to?
"Good afternoon, residents of Canada," he spoke. "As you might know, I am Phoenix Holton. If you have been paying attention to what's going on in the other countries, you might know that I happen to control all of them." He smirked. "I just happened to gain control over Canada today, so I would like to call a meeting tomorrow at twelve in the town square. If you are not there, I will make sure my guards find you, and punish you. Everyone gets the day off of work, school, whatever you're doing. See you all tomorrow!" He grinned cruelly, and then the screen went black again, the TV showing the kitten commercial again.
I needed to get back and tell Ashton.
I turned around and made my way through the crowd that had gathered around the TV store. They all had the same shocked expression on their faces.
I ran back to camp.
"Ashton!" I called, walking quickly to his tent.
He poked his head out. "Yes, Callie?"
"Well, you know how we haven't heard about Phoenix for... what, a month now?" I asked.
Ashton nodded. "Yeah. Did you find anything about him?"
"Turns out, he's been taking over countries," I informed.
Ashton's eyes grew wide. "What?! No, you're joking."
"No, I'm not," I insisted. "I was walking past the TV store and then the TVs came on and Phoenix was there. He was saying that he had taken over every country, and he just had taken over Canada. Everyone's supposed to go to the town square tomorrow."
"This is big stuff," Ashton said, emerging from his tent. "Why didn't you get any visions about it?"
"I don't know," I admitted, frowning. "I thought everything was fine. Maybe I only get visions when something big is happening in our country?"
