Your sitting on the couch, reading a book in Dutch, your mother tongue. You do love to read in English, but sometimes, it's nice to read something in your own language.
You're dating a German, so you basically only talk English all day long, these days. You moved in with him, in Switzerland, making it even harder to speak Dutch.
Sebastian, your boyfriend, walks in after having a shower. He has just gotten back from his race weekend. He was all excited, having a good result and good night out with some of the guys.
He sits down next to you, looking at what you're reading.
"Is that Dutch?" he asks you. You put the book down and nod.
"Can you teach me some words?" he asks. You smile and nod once again.
"Why do you want to learn Dutch?" you ask him, while sitting up a bit more.
"Because my girlfriend is Dutch and I've heard Max talk Dutch this weekend, as his sister was there and I didn't understand any of it. Most of the people talk German or English, but I didn't understand a single thing of what they said to each other. For all I know, they're making fun of me!" Sebastian says, making you laugh.
"Okay, what do you want to say in Dutch then?" you ask him.
"Hello, my name is Sebastian and I have a beautiful girlfriend" he says, smiling brightly at you. You blush slightly before you translate what he said in Dutch, speaking out loud.
"Hoi, mijn naam is Sebastian en ik heb een mooie vriendin" you say. Sebastian looks really confused, before repeating it. It sounds decent, not perfect, but not bad.
"Okay, that was quite good. What else?" you ask him. He thinks a bit before speaking.
"I have just won a race in Formula 1" he says. I giggle at his choice of sentences he wants to learn.
"Ik heb zojuist een race in formule 1 gewonnen" you say to him. He repeats it and it sounds better than the other sentence. You nod happily at him.
"Dutch is so hard!" he says, but a smile is playing on his lips. Because it's your first language, you don't understand what is so hard about it, but you can imagine it being hard for someone who has never spoken a word Dutch.
"Can you teach me to say ' I love you '?" Seb then asks you. You smile brightly.
"Ik hou van jou" you say. Seb repeats it, it sounding almost perfect.
"Je bent geweldig en ik hou erg veel van je" you say to Seb, confusing the hell out of him. He frowns slightly, tilting his head a bit to the side.
"What the hell did you just say?" he asks you, making you laugh.
"You are amazing and I love you very much" you say, translating your Dutch words. Seb starts smiling and kisses you softly.
"How do you say ; 'I want to marry you some day'?" Seb asks you, making sure your heart starts beating faster. You look down at him and he is smiling brightly at you. You blush slightly, before saying it in Dutch.
"Ik wil ooit met je trouwen" you say. Sebastian nods before repeating it.
"Ik wil ooit met je trouwen" and this time, it sounded perfect.

I loved writing this one, actually! I know Dutch is a very hard language for people who don't speak it. I am Dutch, so for me, it's easy!
