CHAPTER TWO

My dad's casserole was surprisingly good. Lillian constantly stared at my dad, an Luke would occasionally catch a glimpse at me. I couldn't help but to watch the way he drinks his apple juice and pushes away pieces of carrots to the side of the blue plate.

Dinner seemed like it last for a while. I awkwardly scarfed down my food first so I had to politely wait for everyone to finish, but I still had my apple juice to kill time.

"Delaney, Lillian works at a day care in town and earned many child care certificates, right Lillian?" He asked making sure everything was accurate, she nodded in response.

"Wow pretty cool." I said smiling tapping my boot on the wooden tiles.

Luke let out a laugh, and I caught Lillian give him a dirty look making him look down at his plate.

"Well dinner was great, thank you so much Jake!" She kissed my dad slowly on the cheek. "It was a pleasure Delaney!" She smiled at me and squeezed my shoulder on her way to the kitchen.

"Same here." I said standing up, collecting my plate and my dad's.

"Nice dinner sir." Luke said then looked at me and winked. I was stunned wasn't sure what that meant.

After they left it turned dark, I sat in my room listening to country music softly. I quietly danced around to the depressing rhythm of the music.

"Goodnight Delaney!" My dad yelled from down stairs.

"Goodnight dad!" I yelled from upstairs.

I slipped out of my dress and into my pajamas, I set my phone to ring at 6 a.m. and before I knew it, I was sound asleep with country music still softly playing.

Six a.m. arrived and I was already outside taking Snow around the track. My dad was sound asleep and I didn't bother to wait for his permission to let me ride out today.

I was curious to see what it looks like in this old town so I decided to take Snow around the block. She did pretty good she stayed calm when cars flew by, unlike me.

I didn't keep track of time, and I didn't notice it was already one and we were definitely lost.

Snow grew tired as I tried to remember street signs.

"Oh no." I said aloud, I couldn't help but to cry.

Me and Snow kept going for a good while and everything became completely unfamiliar. Suddenly a i hear a engine behind me slowing down I turn around to see a tall blue truck, I wave my arms for it to stop.

To my luck it pulled over and I stopped Snow to make sure she doesn't pass him.

"Hey why you riding a horse out on the highway?" A deep voice yelled, when he hopped out of the truck. It was Luke.

"Well I'm lost!" I yelled back.

"Where did you plan on going?" He asked walking towards me, titling his back so he can see me.

"I don't know, can you tell me how I can get home?" I said panicking and embarrassed.

"Well you got to go back the way you came." He laughed a little.

"I don't know which way is that." I said softly.

"Well you're in luck I'm not busy." He smiled up at me. "Just follow me." He ran over to his truck, started it and headed the direction he came from and I followed.

It was a while till we reached home, I was so happy to see familiar land.

"Well your home." Luke got out of his car and guided Snow to the stables.

"Thank you so much!" I yelled, trying not to.

"Your welcome." He smiled.

When we reached the stables he raised his hands up at me. I wasn't sure what this was.

"Cmon I'll help you down." He said nodding his head.

I didn't know what else to say so I went along with it. I brought my other leg to the side he wanted me to get off at, I slowly leaned towards him. He gripped my hips and helped me down. When I landed his body was close to mine, so close I felt his warm body against mine.

"Thanks." I blushed.

"No problem." He said slowly staring into my eyes. "Well I'll see you around Delaney." He said, he patted my shoulder and ran off to his truck , then left.

I stared blankly at nothing, I never been that close to a boy before, it was exhilarating.

"Delaney!, where the hell have you been!" I turn to face the stables where my dad came limping out of.

"Dad I'm sorry I got lost." I looked down at my black cowboy boots that matched my leather jacket.

"Oh my you had me about call the police!" He walked up to me and hugged me.

"Sorry daddy." I said into his shoulder.

"It's alright just don't do that ever again." He released his grip and stared at me. "Put Snow away and meet me at the truck we are going to Lillian's for dinner." I was confused.

"Who's Lillian dad? Why is she suddenly around?" I asked him curling my thin eyebrows.

"She's my girlfriend." He said flatly then limping away. I didn't know what to think, there hasn't been a women in our lives since my mom died. I suddenly missed her blond curly hair, her hair smelling like cinnamon.

After I put away Snow I hopped in the passenger seat of my dad's truck waiting for him to come out of the house. I began to think about Luke and wishing he will be there. I pulled down the mirror in front of me and began to fix my hair. It was frizzy and everywhere.

"Crap!" I jumped out of the truck and ran to my bathroom. I began to roughly brush my hair. I placed two black clips in my hair to keep my hair out of my face.

"Delaney lets go!" My dad yelled from down stairs.

"I'm coming!" I yelled running down the stairs.
