Tita Terrie was shocked. "You mean kuya, si Mr. X ay si Lorenzo Mendiola III? Oh me, oh my!"
Daddy V. gave a heavy sigh. "The one and only. Okay, what do you want to get from him?"
A/N: Aha! Alam ko na Daddy V pa'no kayo naging mag-bestfriend. Seatmates kayo sa school no? Alphabetical order.
Maine is very happy that her dad joined them. She introduced their friends first before answering her father's question.
"Dad, we just need something from him for DNA test. But when you approach him, please, he must not suspect that we're into something. Idea po ito ni Richard." Maine approached her husband and pulled him near her father.
"Sir, welcome to our humble home." Suddenly shy of having his father-in-law in their house, not knowing whether to shake his hand o magmamano ba siya.
Hindi n'yo naitatanong, pero itanong n'yo na rin, hindi pa natatawag ni Richard si sir Vicente ng Daddy nang harapan. Dahil ngayon na lang ulit sila nagkita after that fateful day of the kumot.
Of course Tita Terrie will not let this one pass. "Sir? Tama ba yung narinig ko? Sir talaga? Ano siya professor mo sa college? Kuya Vicente, huwag mong sabihing hindi ka pa rin nagpapatawag ng daddy sa manugang mo? May certification bang kailangang kunin? Sasagutin ko na!"
"Ang dami mo agad sinabi Teresita. Pero tama siya, Richard. Bago pa lang kami nagbabati ni Maine, baka itakwil ulit ako ng anak ko. Daddy na rin ang itawag mo."
Richard rubbed the back of his neck, feeling the heat. This is milestone indeed.
"Yes, ..... daddy."
"Gusto n'yo na bang marinig ang kuwento ni Mr. X or..." Noting his son-in-law's embarrassment at being put on the spot, Daddy V provided the distraction. "Richard, would you like to give me a tour of your house? I heard Maine is the interior designer. I like it."
"Mabuti pa nga i-tour mo muna Tisoy. Iintayin muna namin ang pizza at baka mawalan tayo ng gana pag narinig n'yo kuwento nilang mag-bestfriend. Promise, pang-teleserye ang kuwento nila. Kung nalaman ko lang ng mas maaga kung sino yang Mr. X na yan, sinugod ko na. Kaloka!"
Richard looked at Maine signaling her to come with them but she signaled something back. "Sunod na lang ako, mahal. Nakakahiya sa mga bisita natin."
He glared at her but can't do nothing about it. "This way po sir, este dad."

Two days later......
At a plaza somewhere in a southern province where VM builders is constructing a hydroelectric plant, a middle-aged man sits alone, looking at the old couples walking about at the small park. He did not notice the approach of a familiar figure from behind until he heard his voice.
"Hanggang kailan mo ko parurusahan dahil ako ang pinili niya?"
He need not turn around. He knows that voice so well. "Vicente! Hindi ba dapat ako ang magsabi niyan for sending me to this god-forsaken town? All because you believed the lies of somebody you've just met for the first time?"
