65 - There Was You

Maine tossed and turned, tossed and turned, and tossed and turned some more until she got her desired result.

Woken up from his deep sleep, Richard opened one eye and looks at his wife. He instinctively touched her arm. "Mahal, bakit? May masakit ba? Are you okay?"

Maine pouted. "Nagugutom ako."

He closed his eyes again. "Diba kakakain mo lang bago tayo matulog? Sabi ni doc, hindi puwede maya't maya."

"Craving for avocado shake."

"Nung isang araw, singkamas na kailangan exact ang size, at isasawsaw sa suka. Not too big, not to small. Tapos kahapon, manggang hilaw na kailangan kalabaw at malutong na isasawsaw sa asin na may sili. Ngayon avocado shake. Sige papagawa tayo kay Manang Lydia bukas ng umaga. Yun na lang breakfast mo."

She shook his arm. "Gusto ko ngayon na mahal. Please?"

"Gusto mo avocado with peanut butter ice cream? Dami nating stock na half-liter tubs sa freezer. May iba-ibang flavors pa."

"I changed my mind. Hindi na lang avocado shake. Gusto ko fresh avocado, yung violet na may halong green pa ang color, tapos manually kakayurin ng kutsara sa baso, tapos lalagyan ng condensed milk, saka crushed ice. Sige na mahal, naglalaway na ko o."

Richard glanced at the clock. It's 2am. "Mahal, saan ako maghahanap ng fresh avocado sa mga oras na 'to? May klase pa ko bukas. Hindi ka ba naaawa sa mylabs mo na 12 midnight na natulog dahil sa tinatapos niyang online work?"

She turned to her side, facing away from him. "Hmmp! Ang dami mo nang sinabi e online naman yung klase mo. Sige, di bale na lang! Matutulog na lang kami ni baby na dilat sa gutom."

Scratching his head, "Eto na po, babangon na nga!"

He walked around the bed to her side then kneeled and gently touched her tummy. "Baby, naiintindihan ko na si mommy. Gusto lang niyang magtipid para pag nag-school ka, libre na bags mo. Malalaki na kasi eyebags ni daddy."

"Sige pa-guilty effect ka pa!" Feigning to wipe her imaginary tears.

"Ito naman, di na mabiro! Gusto mo na lang sumama? Libreng roadtrip with bumblebee na may episode title 'The Hunt for Fresh Avocado at 2am'. Come, para maka-stretch ka rin?"

She finally smiles. "I thought you'd never ask." Maine pulled the blanket away, revealing that she's already dressed and set to go.

Richard opened the courier envelope that arrived that morning. It's from the Constux office in Singapore. It has been more than a month since he gate-crashed at the company's board meeting to explain his side.

From the content, it looks that the board, upon deliberation, reconsidered their decision and came up with a new board resolution.

He can come back anytime he wants and resume his old position or just act as consultant. His choice. Should he decline the offer, the resolution also states that aside from the price he's getting for his shares at book value, there is an additional separation pay for his contribution to the company.

Maine stopped sketching when she noticed that Richard became quiet. She walks over to his side, her figure is now showing her pregnancy.

She drapes her arm across his shoulder. "Care to share?"
