Hydra took you when you were just a baby. Well, "took" is the wrong word. You sold to Hydra. Your mom was a crack addict that sold you for drug money. They taught you how to fight and shoot a gun by the age of ten, but they neglected to teach you how to speak. They thought that if you couldn't talk, then you couldn't go against them. You wouldn't be able to find the words to defy them. You weren't taught sign language either. They gave you no communication skills. You followed orders and that was it.

It wasn't until you were twenty-one that you learned how to communicate. You were saved by Captain America himself. He and all the Avengers raided the base you were kept in. It was abandoned not only two days prior, but they left you to die. Just like with all of their worn-out pieces. Steve Rogers, who you learned to be the Captain, unchained you and brought you to the Avengers base. He introduced you to everyone, and that's when they learned of your predicament.

They wanted to be able to communicate with you, but for now, they gave you a whiteboard and a marker to answer basic questions, everything else they would have to learn after teaching you a way to communicate.

Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, took it upon himself to teach you sign language. He had learned it for one of his past missions. You were able to get it down fast. You were eager to express yourself and tell them about who you are. Within two months you could hold steady conversations with Clint. He became your translator when you signed to other members of the tower, but when he would leave to go home to his wife and kids, you were left going back to the whiteboard. No one else knew sign language, but Bucky wanted to change that.

He had been fascinated with you since Steve first brought you in. You had gone through hell but still managed to keep a smile on your face. He wanted to know your secret. He wanted to talk to you, have conversations with you, and he wanted to tell you of his feelings for you but he wanted to sign it.

He started secretly seeing Clint. He helped him learn basic phrases and words. In his spare time, he would watch online videos and would read books just about sign language. He really wanted to impress you.

You could hear just fine, but when people spoke it made you feel weird. You didn't know how to form the words to answer, so most of the time people tried to avoid using speech. It made you uncomfortable, but you wanted to also surprise Bucky.

You also had feelings for the metal-armed man, but of course, neither of you knew of the reciprocated feelings. On top of the sign language lessons, Wanda was also helping you form the one sentence you had always wanted to say.

Both of you finally felt confident. Today was the day you would confess your feelings. You had one last practice with Wanda before she sent you on your way. You had stuttered a little bit, but other than that it was perfect.

You had slowly made your way to the common room. Bucky was always in there at about noon. He was trying to catch up on the stuff he had missed.

You approached him slowly, but what he did next surprised you. He had signed your name. He learned how to sign "Y/N."

Your smile slowly grew and then he continued. His hand movements were a little rough but other than that the signing was perfect. He had signed out "I really like you." You felt giddy inside and before you knew it you were trying to speak.

"I-I l-like y-you too, B-Bucky." You stuttered on most of the words but he still understood you. Your voice was raspy but beautiful. Bucky loved it.

He came over to you and cupped your cheeks in his hands. He looked into your eyes for permission for what he was about to do. He saw the happy gleam and knew you wanted it just as much. He slowly lowered his head and connected your lips. Both of you sighed and the same time. The kiss was slow and sweet. It was your first kiss and his first one since leaving Hydra. It was perfect for the both of you.

Wanda and Clint had been watching from the hallway, giving each other a quiet high-five, they walked away. Proud of the work they had done.
