"Pick me, pick me, pick me up!"

The sound of Daehwi's loud and obnoxious ringtone boomed throughout the room as Daehwi groaned, roaming his hand around his night stand next to his bed with half closed eyes, desperately trying to find the source of the sound; aka, his phone.

"DAEHWI! Get up, breakfast is ready!" Daehwi heard his older step brother Donghyun scream from behind his door, enough to finally make Daehwi jolt fully awake, finding his phone and snoozing his alarm.

"Jesus, I really need to change my ringtone." Daehwi yawned, turning off his phone. Getting up, he put on his bunny slippers (bought by his stepbrother, Donghyun, just for him) and walked out of his room, instantly smiling at the smell of meringue in the kitchen.

Running excitedly to the kitchen, Daehwi plopped himself on his chair and eagerly smiled at Donghyun who was holding a tray of meringue in his hands. In this house lived only Daehwi and Donghyun, 2 stepbrothers, for Daehwi's mom lived overseas while Donghyun's dad wasn't really around anymore. Same thing went for Daehwi's dad, which is why, even though the 2 weren't really blood related, the 2 step siblings understood each other in some sort of way.

Which, perfectly explains the meringue being served every breakfast.

"We should really stop having meringue every breakfast, mom's gonna freak out once she finds out," noted Donghyun as Daehwi began to pig out on the sweet meringue on the tray.

Daehwi shook his head. "No! Never, let's never stop having meringue. I mean, mom rarely comes home, okay? So as long as we know she's coming over then we'll hide the fact that we have meringues every breakfast! Simple."

"It's not that simple, Daehwi. I mean what if.. what if you get a rotten tooth from all this sweet stuff in the morning? Or a stomachache? You rarely have any rice for breakfast you know!" Donghyun complained, clearly worried for his little brother. Daehwi rolled his eyes.

"Oh, brother. You're always overreacting to everything! I've been having meringue for breakfast for, like, I don't know, a few years, okay? And nothing's ever happened, no matter how many times you tried to convince me that something will!" Daehwi ranted. "You gotta stop being overprotective of me. I'm not 8 anymore, you know!"

Donghyun groaned and covered his face in frustration. Daehwi was always so stubborn, but at the same time he always had a point. Donghyun hated it, how he just can't seem to convince his little brother not to do anything.

When Daehwi's mom left for USA to fend for her 2 children when Daehwi was only 15 and Donghyun was 18, it left Donghyun and Daehwi living alone in the simple house of theirs. It was family sized, but only 2 brothers lived in it. Now that Daehwi is 17 and his brother is 20, they've been living by themselves pretty well now. Their mother rarely comes home, and when she does, she only comes back on Christmas. Not even her own birthday, or Daehwi's birthday, or Donghyun's birthday, no. Not even Daehwi or Donghyun's dad's death anniversary. It always had to be.. Christmas, always the only time of the year she came home. Both the brothers know that their mother loves them a lot and she simply just doesn't have time to come home, but deep in their hearts, they both knew, that it'd simply be better if she'd come home to them more often than just Christmas.

This whole meringue every breakfast thing, was always Daehwi and Donghyun's dream ever since Daehwi was 11 and Donghyun was 14. It was during a meringue making contest at Daehwi's elementary school, where Donghyun had to compete in the contest. Not because he loved cooking, he was just forced to by his mom so that she can take pictures. Though, Daehwi couldn't deny that that whole meringue making contest was a mess. It started with all the contestants shrieking "it's meringue time!" and proceeding to trying and making meringue while just hearing a tutorial from some cooking expert (and, to make sense of what happened next, the cooking expert didn't really demonstrate. He just sorta explained the whole thing really fast).
