11 | Jutsu

Part I

"Lord Fugaku, there's something I need to discuss with you personally." Hiruzen appeared at their door late at night. Itachi and Sasuke were both in a separate room with Hagami and they were playing just like they promised. However, Mikoto and Fugaku were called away briefly to converse with Hiruzen.

"What happened?" Mikoto asked. She failed to her the concern out of her voice.

"Did something happen during Hagami's exam?" Fugaku asked. "She told me she passed." The thought of Hagami lying to him was almost unreal and if it was the case, he'd surely retort and argue.

"Indeed Hagami did pass the exam. But during it she was confronted by a Anbu Root member. She fought amazingly, according to Hayate, but aside that, I'd like you to keep a close eye on her. I don't know what's going on but make sure she doesn't get ensnared in the Root." Hiruzen warned. "She's still young, getting ready to turn twelve tomorrow, right?" She saw Fugaku nod faintly. "Then she can be brought into the Root. She's still young enough to be brought in and corrupted."

"Wait, Hagami fought against a member of the Root? She doesn't have a scratch on her besides the one on her leg." Fugaku raised his eyebrows astonished.

"Ah," Hiruzen replied. "She fought well for her age. Much better than any other ninja would be able to. And without the Sharingan, I think she'll rival some of your best in the Uchiha Clan. Speaking of which, tomorrow is the jutsu portion of her exam. And I'm putting her against Shisui too. Two other members, one Maito Gai and the other Hatake Kakashi will be her other opponents. Be aware that this time, you're all allowed to observe. It'll be held in the Preliminary Arena in the Forest of Death."

"Thank you for the offer." Mikoto bowed her head respectfully and Fugaku did the same. "I'll be sure to be there."

"As will I." Fugaku added. "Sasuke and Itachi will be attending too."

"Alright. I thank you for your time, Lord Fugaku." Hiruzen said pushing himself to his feet. "I look forward to seeing Hagami's success on the final exam as well as her true potential." Hiruzen said honestly before he walked out of the house. Unknown to Mikoto and Fugaku, Hayate had told him about Hagami's use of the Sharingan, or at least the hypothesis that she used it. The thought troubled the Hokage slightly considering that if the information leaked, she'd almost certainly be swept into the tangles of the Root.

"Okaasan? Otousan? Why're you up this early?" Hagami asked when she slid her tantō into its sheath. To her added surprise, both Itachi and Sasuke peered out too with a bright look in their eyes.

"Oh nothing really important. Lord Hiruzen dropped by last night and he offered us a place to watch your final exam." Fugaku answered nonchalantly and Hagami's widened slightly. If the four of them were to come, there'd be a chance her secret with the Sharingan would be revealed.

I have to be extra careful during this part of the exam. She thought to herself but nodded anyway. "I'm going to head on up before you. I'll be sure to look for you once you get to the Preliminary Arena." Hagami said shooting them a smile. Before anyone could stop and speak with her, she had already slid the door open and darted off toward the Forest of Death.

Running there was easy. Waiting around for Hiruzen to arrive and unlock the gates was not. She stood there quite impatiently hence she was tapping her foot and fumbling with her tantō's holster. But at least Hiruzen didn't take as long as she thought.

"It's rare to see someone making it here before I do." Hiruzen chuckled and Hagami whirled around. She had been told that her exam would start in the Preliminary Arena but she had to be prepared so she grabbed her tantō's hilt. When she saw Hiruzen, there were three ninja beside him, all of which were male. One was wearing a green spandex suit, another had his hitai-ate covering his left eye, and the third was the youngest and quite familiar.

"S-Shisui?" Hagami asked raising a brow. Amongst the three ninja, Shisui was noticeably shorter and younger. "You're part of my exam?"

"Ah well yeah. Lord Hokage asked me to be and I accepted. I haven't been able to fight you head on yet." Shisui admitted and Hagami's eyebrow quirked.

"You're holding back on me all that time weren't you?" Hagami asked rhetorically. She already knew the answer when Shisui began to chuckle. "Yeah, I figured as much." She sighed and then looked at the other two. The one in the green spandex suit was someone she had yet to learn the name of and the other she was a little familiar with. His hair was a silvery color, a symbol of the Hatake Clan. He also bore the same uniform — or similar — to the Root member she fought the day before.

Hatake...Kakashi. The thought of Hagami being pitted against him made her anticipation skyrocket whilst she forced herself to let go of the tantō's hilt. She felt that before, if she let go, she'd fall into an abyss.

"Uchiha Hagami. I will accompany you until we get to the Preliminary Arena. I'm aware that you know of Shisui here. But the other two with me is Hatake Kakashi and Maito Gai." Hiruzen introduced quickly and proceeded past Hagami to unlock the gates. "Please, let us not waste time right now. Let's head to the Preliminary Arena."

"Hai." Hagami responded as the two older males walked past her. A shiver went up her back at the though of taking on Kakashi. She's heard of him, "Friend Killer Kakashi" people around the Village have said. And she wasn't eager to die at his hands to say the least either.

"Hagami-san, everything will be fine." Shisui assured as she began to turn to enter the Forest of Death. She stopped mid-turn and turned back to see Shisui reach out to her shoulder. He gave it a gentle, reassuring squeeze before he walked alongside her to the exam grounds.

When the five of them entered the Preliminary Arena, it took a few minutes for the place to lighten up. The electricity hadn't been run for quite some time and Hiruzen was surprised that it actually worked this well to begin with. In the back of the arena there was a platform where the Hokage — and four Jōnin on either side of him that appeared seemingly out of nowhere — would stand. Behind them stood a statue which took the appearance of two arms weaving the first hand seal that Hagami had learned in the past. On either side of her near the entrance, there were two flights of stairs up to a balcony so the fight can be viewed.

Fugaku, Mikoto, Itachi, and Sasuke showed up not long after the Jōnin and the Hokage took their places whilst Shisui, Kakashi, and Gai took their places beside the left wall. They waited to be called on just as Hagami's family made their way up to the balcony to view her exam. Hiruzen stepped forward after a brief silence, "Today is Uchiha Hagami's last, three-part exam in order to become Jōnin. She had completed the Weaponry Section with her only trouble being the Kusarigama Chain. Her Intelligence and Tracking Section she passed with flying colors not to mention having to fight against an Anbu Root member. But this exam will be her final and if she passes, she becomes Jōnin." Hiruzen announced. "We will start with Ninjutsu first. Hatake Kakashi, please step forward. Uchiha Hagami, please discard your tantō and holster. You two will only be allowed to use shuriken and kunai."
