Kate's POV
Jake & I grabbed a cart & I set my keys & wallet in the top part as we walked towards the hiking boots. I grabbed these dark brown ones & tried them on while Jake stood there looking around, not very sure on what to do.
"Jake pick out a pair to try on."
"I don't have any money & these aren't cheap Kate." He said showing me the tag next to him.
I rolled my eyes as I stood up & walked next to him to read that the boots only costed seventy dollars.
"Jake that isn't anything. This is pretty cheap considering they are hiking boots. Believe me you want to buy the expensive ones anyways so they don't rip or tear easily. "
"Point taken, but again I don't have any money."
"That is taken care of Jake. I will pay for them, it's the least I can do since I invited you out to here for a couple days. I mean you're missing school work, so let me pay for your stuff while we are here, believe me I can afford it, so don't argue with me." I said with a sincere look, this boy is just so sweet & surprising me today.
I go back & pick out another pair of hiking boots, but these are a medium brown & as I try them on I decide I like the dark brown ones better so I check the price & see that they are just under eighty dollars, I grabbed a couple pairs of hiking socks & went to go check on Jake. I walked up to see him holding up two pairs of hiking boots. Both were dark brown , but one had a darker shade to it. I walked over in front of him & suppressed a smile.
"Have you ever been hiking?"
"Uh, no Kate. By the way why is this so hard to pick a pair of hiking boots?"
I shook my head, not sure I just heard right. He's never been hiking, I would've figured him as the type to go hiking on the weekends when he is free & doing nothing, guess I was wrong.
"Well, it isn't that hard. Did you try both pairs on?"
"Yes I did."
"Well which one felt well fitted & felt secured around your foot? Like you can go over anything & you won't slip."
"Well, this one." He held out the one that was a tad darker than the other one.
"Okay , then you get those!"
"Yeah, but these cost more & I don't want you to pay for these any more than you have to." He exclaimed
"How much more?"
"Six dollars more."
"Pssht, put those in the cart Jake, six dollars isn't anything." I said as I took the other ones out of his hands & put them back on the shelf.
"Kate, these are one-hundred dollars." He said slowly, emphasizing the price to me.
"I know, I figured you would need the more expensive ones, & again I don't care." I said a smile playing on my lips.
He deliberately put the boots in the cart & muttered something about how he is going to pay me back, but I ignored him & acted as if I heard nothing.
"Now come on you need hiking socks for your boots." I said excited.
"Girls & their shopping." He said as he followed behind me.
