11:26 a.m.
"What the fuck is my sister doing in the h-"
"Shh!" I shush, pulling her out of Onika's hospital room. As we make it into the hallway, I take one look back and see Onika is still sleeping.
"Robyn! What is she doing in there?!" Roman shrieks, her voice cracking.
I shush her again, trying to come up with a quick lie. I should've thought about this when I called her....
I decide to to tell her the truth.
"Okay... Listen... An' be quiet..." I say.
She nods, pushing a stray hair out of my face. Her grey eyes gaze into my hazel, begging me for the truth.
"Last night...at da party... Robert took advantage of he-"
"Wha-" Roman screams but I interrupt her.
"Listen," I try to calm her down but she's screaming and cursing in Creole and some other language. She pulls out her phone but it's snatch it away.
"Listen!" I whisper loudly, shutting her up.
She crosses her arms over her chest," give me my fucking phone."
"Why?" I ask.
"I have to tell my mo-"
"No!" I exclaim,"she barely even waan me tellin' ya. But it's handled. Beyoncé said dat he's gonna be away fa a long time because of wha' he did."
Roman looks barely convinced but she nods, nonetheless
I start an explanation of what's going on," she was acting weird dis mornin'. She blacked out and beat my ass but I calmed ha down. Then she started havin' these pain... I asked is she alright but she kept sayin', so I ain't push it furthe-"
"Why didn't you take her to the hospital after it happened?" Roman asks.
"She didn't wanna go. I tried an' tried buh she kept sayin' no. Then da pains started getting worse, I guess cause she ran off to the bathroom. Then that's when she told me she was bleedin'."
"Her period?"
"Nah. Dat ended last week... So we came here... They kept saying something about a... miscarriage?"
"No. Nick wasn't messing around like that..." Roman says, her eyes taking a glossy look to them.
On impulse, I pull her to me, gathering her in a hug. I guess it's because she looks so much like Onika and I can't to see them both sad.
