LISA

I let out a sigh as I walked down the street. It was Sunday evening and I was walking back home after searching for jobs which I found none. All I am doing is the opposite of what I said I will do when I come to Korea.

My phone rang and checked to see who it was.

MOM THAILAND calling...

I decided to answer.

'Lalisa?' She said.

'Yeah.'

'Oh my god. My baby, how are you? Why aren't you picking up my calls?' Her voice cracked a little.

'I was busy.'

'Baby, are you having a hard time? Why haven't you send me the pic of your apartment? Is it good? Are you eating on time? Do you cook yourself?' She bombarded me with questions.

'The apartment's fine. And yes, I cook myself.'

'Baby, you can't even fry eggs.' She said.

'Mom, that was one time. And I am pretty good now especially at making ramyun.'

'Ramyun's an instant noodle, Lalisa.'

'So? It stills needs to be cooked.'

She sighed but chuckled afterwards.

'It's so quite here without you.' She said.

'Don't lie. I used to be in my room the whole time.'

'Well, at dinner times. Believe it or not, I miss how you nagged about the food.'

I let out a sigh.

'Marco said-'

'I am hanging up.' I said in a stern voice cutting her off.

'Okay. Okay. I won't bring him up. So, you went out with a friend yesterday?' She asked.

'Yeah.'

'I am so glad you have made a friend there, Lalisa. What's her name?'

'Chaeyoung.' I replied.

'Pretty name.'

'Pretty person too.' I smiled thinking about Chaeng.

'I bet she is. Any other friend, you have made?'

'Jisoo and Jennie. They all are really nice.'

'I am glad you have started making friends again.'

I just stayed silent.

'Did you find a job? Are you working?' She asked.

'Searching.'

'You don't have to work you know. We can easil-'

'No. I feel pathetic spending your money like this. The whole point of me coming here was to be independent. But all I am doing is the opposite.'
