CHAPTER SIX _________________________ "Come on, Kakashi-sensie. You know I don't wanna train on my birthday." Naruto groaned, a fresh autumn breeze flowing past them as they walked.
"Last I heard you don't celebrate either way." He shrugged.
"That doesn't mean I can't go eat ramen and just talk to Old Man Teuchi." He muttered, kicking away a pile of red and orange leaves.
"It's gonna be great." Kakashi assured him with fake enthusiasm."We can go out to eat after, okay?"
"If you say so. You're treating, though-!"
"Surprise!"
Naruto screamed and jumped back into his silver-haired sensie, clearly startled.
"Maybe we shouted too loud?"
"This was just doomed from the start."
"For once, Sasuke, be quiet."
The Uzumaki's mouth dropped open in shock. A cake, that appeared to had been homemade. Lights that had been strung from tree to tree until the almost-dark training area was illuminated. His teammates, standing there with small smiles and neutral expressions as they watched his reaction.
And better yet, the woman who he looked up to so much, her smile brighter than ever while she stood there with a sheepish expression.
"Listen." She began."I know you said you didn't want to celebrate your birthday, but-"
"Oh man, oh man!" The boy interrupted, clutching his head out of excitement."This is so awesome! You did this, Hana-san? Thanks so much! I didn't think that I wanted something like this, but I do! And you guys. You really wanna celebrate with me? That's so cool of you-"
"-Don't think of about it too much." Sakura interrupted sternly."You're still an idiot in our eyes."
"That's so mean-!"
"-But even though you're an idiot, that doesn't mean we don't want to celebrate with you." Sasuke finished, rolling his eyes at the end."All this just to make him happy...pointless if you ask me." He then muttered to his peers.
Naruto grinned."Thanks! Thank you guys so much!"
"Naru." Hana said softly, grabbing his hand to pull him to a set-up table in the field, having him sit down in one of the chairs.
"Hm?" He asked curiously.
"I was just wondering...you remember that thing about not believing you could have a family again?"
"Yeah..."
She laughed nervously, something she seemed to be doing a lot these days."What if you could, though?"
"...what?"
"I know that you might hate this proposal, but just listen." She pleaded."I've known you for what, nine months now? And it's been the best experience of my life. I've gotten to know how energetic you are, and how funny you are, and how kind you are, and how good your heart is. That's so rare, to have all of those things. And I'd like nothing more than to help you carry that on. So...what do you think about me adopting you?"
He inhaled shakily."You wanna adopt me?"
She nodded slowly, trailing her thumb over the palm of his hand encouragingly."You don't have to say yes. It's just a thought. Whatever you want."
"And...you want to adopt me too, Kakashi-sensie?" The yellow-haired boy quizzed hesitantly.
"Of course." The man smiled, taking his place beside his wife."But whatever you decide."
He broke out into a bright smile, pulling the couple into a bone-crushing hug.
"Yes, of course I do! I want you to adopt me."
