I sighed deeply ripping out the page of my book, screwing it up and throwing it across the room. These equations kept coming out wrong, no matter what I did, how many different ways I tried to write it. I laid my head on my book and swore loudly.

"I can't do it!" I cried in frustration.

"That was your first try." Ponyboy chuckled from across the table.

"Sure, let me try twenty more times and waste some more paper! I mays as well just give up now."

"You're being over dramatic." Ponyboy said flatly, it was no use he wouldn't let me get out of doing my homework so easily. Who could blame him, my older brother Dallas had 'asked' (more like threatened) him to tutor me in hopes my school work would improve. That was how I'd ended up spending every weekday afternoon at the Curtis' household being taught unnecessarily difficult math formulas by a kid a grade beneath me.

"Hey Pony!" Sodapop greeted walking into the living room where Pony and I had our books spread out. Spending the afternoons at the Curtis house wasn't all that bad since one of Pony's older brothers Sodapop arrived home at fifteen past five every afternoon, not that I'd noticed. "Hey Riya, hard at work?" He grinned. His smile was the most gorgeous smile I'd ever seen on a greaser.

"Sure." I mumbled not being able to work up the courage to say more than three words to him.

"Come on Riya concentrate." Ponyboy teased, glancing at him he shot me a knowing wink.

"Don't say a word." I breathed quietly as Sodapop came back into the room.

"What are you guys working on?" Soda asked leaning on the table his tanned arms right next to mine.

"Math." I answered.

"Wow that's specific." Pony remarked. My face burned red as I sunk into my seat.

The front door slammed open and breathing suddenly became easier when I heard Dally's voice. He'd come to pick me up, not trusting me not to get jumped.

"Come on Riya, there's a party at buck's I'll miss if you don't hurry your ass up." He hollered from the doorway. I stuffed all my things into my backpack not caring that nothing was in its place and that I definitely just heard one of the pages from my textbook rip. I was too aware of Soda's gaze on me as I gathered my things and it was causing my heartbeat to race.

"See you Pony." I said quickly before walking towards Dally.

"What about me sweetheart?" Soda's voice broke the silence, my heart felt like it was going to jump right out of my chest.

"B-bye Soda." I replied cursing at myself for stuttering. I heard Soda chuckle so I quickly let myself out of the house, absolutely mortified at the embarrassment I just put myself through.

The next day in history class we'd been given a pop quiz. I took one glace at the questions and knew there was no way I'd be able answer any of them. Instead I fixed my attention to the corner of my desk where someone had scratched into the wood i hate this class. I couldn't agree more.

My thoughts, as always it seemed, ended up on Soda. I wish he still went to school, we wouldn't have any classes together but at least I'd get a chance to see him around. I still wouldn't be able to talk to him though because I'm far too shy and what would we talk about anyway?
