"So, you'll be sharing with me until we get your room finished, I hope that's alright!" I nodded, "Absolutely."
"You've been here for two minutes and you've already got my brothers swooning over you," She giggled. "They barely know my name." Rydel raised her eyebrow, "That's what you think, but no... you are much more than that in their twisted, manipulative boy brains!" I laughed, "So how old are you anyway? Are you still in school?"
"I'm a senior. I can show you around tomorrow if you want." I shook my head. "I'll let Ross show me around, it's not a big deal." Rydel smirked.
"You like him," She teased. "I do not," I lightly pushed her. "No need to get defensive, it only makes me think you like him more," She started to laugh. "I just met him like five minutes ago. It isn't like that." She shrugged.
"Oops! It's almost time for band rehearsals, come on," Rydel dragged me out of the room and pulled me down the stairs. "Band rehearsals?" She nodded, "You can watch!" She raced down the stairs. "Rydel! Wait up!" I called running after her.
As I got down to the bottom of the stairs, I saw everyone set up. Rydel waved me over to her and introduced me to the other boy. "Laura, this is Ellington Ratliff. Most of us around here just call him Ratliff." I smiled, "Hi." He waved and sat back down at the drums. I sat down on the couch and waited for them to begin.
Riker whispered in Rocky's ear and then to the others. Rydel clapped, "My favorite!"
"Laura, you're gonna love this one," She giggled.
"Remember that trip we took in Mexico, yeah." Ross' eyes immediately locked with mine.
"Hanging with the boys and all your señoritas."
"Never spoke up, yeah never said hello, but I keep on tryna find a way to meet ya."
I looked away from him. I wasn't feeling this way, I couldn't feel this way. I have a boyfriend I reminded myself. I put my hands on my temples and rubbed them as I continued to listen to his voice.
"Like, damn you could be the one that could mess me up, you could be the one that could break me, damn all them other girls say they had enough, you could be the one that could take me."
Once again our eyes locked. His voice entranced me and his words hypnotized me.
I noticed the song was over and began to clap.
"That was awesome!" I gushed.
I felt someone tap my shoulder, "Do you mind if we talk?" I hesitated for a second and then responded, "Um, okay yeah." I walked aside with him.
"We don't have to do this," I said. He seemed confused, "Do what?" I pushed my hair in the back of my ear. "We don't have to talk about whatever that was," I blurted out.
"I don't know what you're talking about," He said looking even more confused. My cheeks turned a bright red and I held my breath. "I was just gonna talk to you about school tomorrow," He said.
"You really don't have to show me around, I think I can manage and I can always ask Rydel," I smiled as best I could. My face was pale, yet my cheeks were still a burning scarlet. "No, it's okay. I really don't mind." I just smiled and turned to walk away.
"Hey, don't let my friends scare you." I turned around. "I don't scare easily," I smirked and turned up the stairs heading back into Rydel's room.
Riker knocked on the door. "Come in," I called from the inside. He opened the door, "Hey, so I only got to meet you for a few minutes before, but I'm Riker." I smiled, "Laura."
"I'll be at the school tomorrow too. I already graduated, but I still participate in the theater program. You should check it out."
"Maybe I will."
"I can show you around tomorrow if Ross is busy, or just if you want. I'll be there most of the day and I can come in earlier if you want."
"Well, if you're gonna be there anyway, that sounds cool. Ross probably has enough to worry about with getting to his own classes." He immediately smiled. "Here take my number," I reached for my phone and gave it to him. "Type in your number and text yourself."
After he finished he started walking out, "I'll drive you to school tomorrow."
"Sounds good and hey, thanks for being so nice."
He turned back and smiled.
God he was cute.. wait I have a boyfriend, well an ex now I guess.
That night I tossed and turned. I just couldn't fall asleep. I sat up and looked over at Rydel. She was already sound asleep. I slowly walked into the hallway and slid inside the bathroom. I flipped on the light switch and looked into the mirror. I reached down and turned on the faucet, putting my hands in the cold water and splashing it onto my face. I breathed slowly, calming myself down.
The door started to open. I turned off the water quickly and dried my hands.
"I'm sorry," He started to shut the door. "No, it's okay, I'm finished." I opened the door and bumped into him.
"Listen, I wanna apologize for before. I wasn't sure how you were feeling-" I quickly interrupted. "Don't worry about it, we're fine."
"Oh," He seemed a little less confident than before.
"Goodnight."
I crept back into Rydel's room and leaned my back against the door, sliding down. "What did I just do?" She flipped on the light smirked, "Thought you didn't like Ross?"
"Go back to bed."
