"Coulson? I need your help. What? I don't care about some Kree maniacs! This is way more important! I know, but what if your team fails? Who will you rely on then? Exactly, but they've been... er... taken out of the equation, so to say. That's what I mean! I need your help! Get your ass here now!"

Tony slammed his phone down on the table, eliciting startled yelps from the children surrounding him. They stared up at him with wide eyes, sat in a circle in the center of the living room.

"What?" he snapped irritably. He cast a glare round the eight year olds. "What are you staring at?" A couple of them shied away.

"Thor," he heard Loki whisper. "I don't like him. He's scary."

"Yeah, well I don't like you either, you little brat," the inventor hissed. Thor frowned, shuffling closer to Loki protectively, but the trickster just smiled.

"I like you now. You sound like father," he decided, sitting down cross legged and playing with Thor's hair. Tony shook his head exasperatedly.

"I'm bored!" Peter yelled. He jumped onto the table. A chorus of "yeah" followed, turning into cheers when he started tap dancing. Tony gaped at him.

"Jeez, kid, what did you have for breakfast?" Peter grinned.

"I had frosties. Can we go to the park? Or the zoo? I wanna see a tiger!" He leapt off the table with a roar, pouncing on a terrified Steve. Steve screamed, flailing his arms round to rid himself of the hyperactive boy.

"Help!" he shrieked. "Help!"

"Stop it!" Tony yelled. "Stop it!" He pulled them apart. "You guys are unbelievable!" Peter's lip quivered. Tony braced himself for the kid to start bawling, but he started laughing instead. The giggles were infectious, and soon everyone was rolling round the floor, laughing.

Tony watched the kids, pressing his fingers against his temples. He could feel a migraine coming on.

"Okay, what's the problem?"

"Oh, thank God," Tony muttered at the sound of Coulson's voice. He spun round to face the agent, but Phil was staring wide eyed at the children. "We had a little... er... accident."

"I see."

"I'm hungry!"

"I'm bored!"

"Ow! He hit me!"

"Stop it, Clint! Tony! He kicked me!"

"What does this do?"

"Tony?"

"Tony?"

"Tony!"

"Mr Stark?"

"WHAT? WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

Stark instantly regretted shouting when Thor flinched, eyes welling up with tears, a terrified expression painted across his features. He took a step back, his lower lip trembling as he tried not to cry. Tony sighed.

"Thor, I'm sorry. I'm just very stressed out," he apologised. He glanced at the syringe on the table, picking it up and showing it to Thor. "I need to test something on you. Could you come here please?"

Thor's eyes widened in horror at the sight of the syringe and the thunder god stumbled away from him, towards his brother. Tony internally groaned, realising he probably could have worded that better. He kept forgetting how young they all were. After some quick scans on the kids, Stark and Coulson had discovered that they weren't actually all the same age. Tony had written the ages down on a sheet, and glanced at it now, to remind himself how old Thor was- Pepper had always said that different ages required different treatment.

Ages of mini-avengers (and Loki):

Point Break: 11

Rock of Ages: 7

Jarvis 2.0: 8

Scarlet Witch: 8

Scary Ninja: 9

Legolas: 9

Captain Spangles: 8

Green Protein Dude: 10

Spider-Child: 7

"Thor," Tony tried again, but Thor just scooped Loki into his arms and backed into the corner of the room. Loki giggled happily, braiding Thor's hair with his quick little fingers, a happy smile on his face. Tony stepped forward again.

"No! We're not some... some... some test subjects for you to do freaky experiments on!" Thor yelled, shaking his head vigorously. Loki cried out as a braid was ripped from his grasp.

"Thor! You have to stay still!" he insisted, gathering the hair together and starting the braid anew. "Besides, it's not a freaky test. It's a protein synthetic solution enriched with embryonic stem cells." Tony blinked.

"How did you know that?"

"It just seemed like the most logical thing to do," the young god explained. "I heard you and the suit man talking about restoring us to our original bodies. Like we were actually grown ups. So I... I guessed, I suppose." Loki looked thoughtful.

"Well, that's exactly what it is. Now, can I please try it on you?"

"No."

"No?"

"I like being a kid. It's more fun."

Thor sniggered at Tony's exasperated expression, but stopped abruptly as the inventor double over, hacking coughs racking his frame. Tony made shooing motions with his hand. Thor carried Loki towards Vision and Wanda, playing cars with them but watching the older men from under his eyelashes.

"Tony?" Coulson appeared in the doorway, hurrying over to ease Stark onto the sofa. "Have you still not healed properly?"

"No, but it's fine."

"Sure it is."

"It's fine."

"Tony?"

"What?"

"Is there a particular reason as to why there's a strange blue man standing outside your window?"

"We're twelve stories up."

"Oh..."
