Chapter 15

Zhe Yun returned to the capital with the army. He first went to the palace to report to the Emperor. When he returned to his manor, he found Rui Mama and the servants all lined up waiting to welcome him. Xing Chen was nowhere in sight. His face immediately tensed up and his mood was gloomy. He looked at Rui Mama.
"Where is Xing Chen?"
"The madam stayed in the manor all the time. But she went to stay at Su family's manor last month and just came back a week ago. But the face doesn't look too well.."
Zhe Yun quickly rushed in. He saw Xing Chen sitting up on the bed, half covered in the soft blanket. His face paler that he had last seen him. His heart wrenched up. Xing Chen gave him a reassuring smile but it saddens him even more. Zhe Yun sat on the bed and embraces Xing Chen.
"I'm back, wifey."
"Ah, welcome back, Ah Yun."
"Why is your face so pale? Where are you not feeling well? Have you seen the physician?"
"I'm fine. Just a little cold. And the physician already came yesterday. Did Ah Yun have a smooth journey? Did you wiped off the tribe?"
"Hmnn. I did. Xing Chen, you're not wearing the jade pin that I gave you?"
On the way back in these few days, Zhe Yun had been thinking what would be Xing Chen's reaction when he asked about the jade ornament. The injured assassin that killed Meng Hu, was it really Xing Chen? Did Xing Chen really followed him to the Northern border? Then who was the one that lived in the manor all the while? He had a lot of questions but he clearly didn't thought of this.
Xing Chen's body shook, and trembled in Zhe Yun's embrace when he heard the question. He couldn't control his emotions, and teared up. His face reddened and he was choked up by his tears. Zhe Yun was even more nervous when he saw this reaction.
"Wuu...uuu....I lost the jade pin...uu...I'm sorry....hukk...coughh...."
"Ahh... I'm not blaming you or anything. Don't cry, wifey...."
Xing Chen kept on coughing and he held his chest in pain. Zhe Yun panicked and rushed out of the manor to bring the physician back. Xing Chen's condition stabilized afterwards. He fell asleep after taking the stabilizing medication. The physician, Old Man Xu is actually the one who looked after Su Xing Chen's since his birth. When he saw Xing Chen's condition worsened upon his arrival, he got angry. Zhe Yun obediently stood there and received his scoldings. After the physician left, Zhe Yun stayed by Xing Chen's side. He carefully looked after him all night.
When Xing Chen woke up in the morning, Zhe Yun fed him a bowl of fish porridge he personally cooked early morning. He helped him brush and braided his long hair, and even personally did Xing Chen's make up. He had to go to the court meeting in the afternoon, so he asked Rui Mama and the servants by Xing Chen's side to keep an eye on him.
Zhe Yun had a slightly haggard face when he went to the palace. The Emperor was shocked and asked him. He truthfully answered that the wife was sick and he took care of Xing Chen the whole night. He quickly rushed back home to Xing Chen right after the meeting ended. When Xing Chen saw him, he moved aside and let Zhe Yun lie down on the bed. He obediently laid himself in Zhe Yun's arms and they slept through the evening.
It took Xing Chen a few months to fully recuperate himself.
