April 16th, Two weeks later, School halls
Nicky glanced up and down the hall- then gave Tracy the all clear; the hall was packed full of high school students- but none of them paid attention to Tracy and Nicky.
Tracy took a deep breath and ignored the voice of reason that said she shouldn't be doing this here. Quickly she sliced her index finger with the sharp edge of her math binder.
Nicky winced as blood welled in the two-inch cut on her finger.
Tracy wiped the blood away impatiently on her jeans and held her hand back up; there was no trace of there ever being a cut on her skin.
Nicky held her finger closer to his face- she couldn't help but smile when she realized that he was inspecting her finger with his 'improved' vision.
He looked up and smiled, "That's wicked!" he whispered.
Tracy nodded in total agreement; she had gotten board in math class and decided to experiment. Apparently repairing skeletal structure wasn't the only thing she could do!
She opened up her locker while Nicky stood by, still in awe. Both of them snapped to attention when a note fluttered from Tracy's locker; it looked just like the one Alex had showed them a few weeks past.
Going to donate yourself to science Limpy? If you get tired of these notes you could always met me and we could just hash it out
Tracy let Nicky read the note before slipping it into her pocket.
"Hash it out?" Nicky asked with concerned eyes.
"Like that's ever going to happen!" Tracy put his mind at ease, even though she didn't have interest in 'hashing things out' with whoever this bully was- Tracy was getting very curious of who they were.
* * *
Tracy and Nicky made their way outside in silence- both caught up in their own thoughts.
Outside, the buses had begun to line up- but unlike other days- no one was interested in getting on their bus. Instead a large knot of students had gathered on the wet grass in front of the school. Phones were held up to record, and the outside ring of teens were jumping to get a better view, while the inside ring bobbed and jumped about, there was a mix of laughter and unintelligible shouting emanating from the knot. Shouts of 'get him!' and 'OUCH!' or 'stop it!' were repeated every few seconds.
Nicky and Tracy stood well back from the spectacle, and were joined by Mike who was tall enough to see what was happening.
"Who is it?" Nicky asked above the ruckus.
"Don't know- I think I've seen one of the guys from quizzing though." Mike's voice was nearly lost, "Their really going at it!" he said with a wince- the noise level increased and Nicky guessed that one of the guys must have got a good swing in.
Just then the three friends noticed Chick stumble from the crowd- she looked furious!
"You ok?" Mike asked with concern.
Chick smoothed out her face and gave an exasperated smile, "Yeah- boys are so dumb!" then she left- obviously upset about the fight.
"Ok." Mike said quietly.
"I don't know why you try." Nicky said to his friend about the pretty blonde- he knew that Mike had a crush on another girl and he couldn't for the life of him understand why Mike even tried being nice to Chick.
"I don't trust her!" Mike said with a cheery smile, "So I've been keeping an eye on her. I even think she might have something to do with those notes."
"Really?" Tracy asked, "She isn't too nice for that sort of thing?"
"It's the nice ones you gatta look out for." Nicky warned, as he watched Chick walk out into the parking lot.
"You got that right!" Mike agreed.
"I got another note." Tracy confessed to Mike in the safety of all the noise, and showed Mike the note.
"Coward! If he really wanted to hash things out he'd give a meeting place!" Mike said as soon as he read the note. Nicky had noticed that the older boy's confidence had grown since finding out about his super powers- and Nicky was a bit scared of what Mike would try given the chance.
"The gym teacher and principle are coming to brake this up." Mike said after a moment.
"How do you know?" Tracy asked- Mike only smirked.
Sure enough the big gym teacher and principle came storming out of the school. The teens who saw them coming, got out of the way- wary of suspensions. The noise level died down a good deal as the two adults pushed their way to the center of the fighting ring.
Soon the gym teacher emerged, he was escorting a teen who was even taller then him. The teen was so tall he was hard to put an age on, he had longish brown hair that was ruffled from the fight, and a deep frown and several small cuts were on his chiselled face. He wore a leather jacket and bikers' gloves.
The principle also emerged escorting the second boy who had been fighting, this boy had a blondeish shag and was much shorter, his blue hoodie was wet from the dirty melting snow. His face was in much worse condition, obviously he had been the loser. He stormed ahead of the principle who clung to his arm- both of them slipped a little in the melting snow. Nicky's stomach dropped as he recognized him as the bully who had terrorized him for years; it was Josh.
"Guys?..." Tracy said uncertainly, she was looking out into the parking lot. The boy's followed her gaze; Chick was climbing into the cab of a big truck that had a bad dent in the hood. And the driver was Maddison. Both girls scowled at the school as if hugely unimpressed with what had happened on the front yard.
"What is Chick doing getting rides from Maddy!?" Nicky wondered out loud.
"I think it's time we had an organized effort to keep an eye on both Chick AND Maddison." Mike said with a frown.
What do you think the fight was about? and why was Chick so upset about it? i'd love to hear your thoughts
