*Selena POV*
The sound of distant footsteps echoed through the walls.
"It sounds like more wolves are on the way," Nicole sighed.
Jake quickly turned to Amy, "Are you okay to fight, Amy? I don't want you straining yourself."
With a light chuckle, she smiled, "Thank you for your concern sweetheart, but I should be fine."
"Okay, good! Just be careful because something stops us from shifting while in this building." Nicole added.
Amy looks toward me knowingly, "One of Aaron's spells no doubt."
Nodding my head in return, I look back towards the open door.
We'll I guess we'll have to fight our way out then.
"If we go now, can get the advantage before they block us off in this room," Nicole asserted.
Amy nodded her head in agreement, "You're right, hon. Being confined to one space is a bad way to get outflanked."
Outflanked...
Suddenly, a plan clicked in my mind. Looking at Jake, I could see his eyes widen.
"I have an idea, but you may not like it,"
"Well, what's your plan?" He smiled lightly.
"I think we should split up-"
"Okay, you were right. I don't like it," he stopped me.
"Let her finish what she was saying, Jake," Nicole rolled her eyes.
"Thanks, Nicki," I smiled in return. "I know that sounds bad but hear me out. This hallway is just one big circle. A really long circle, but it all circles around. If two of us take one side and the other goes around the other side, we could outflank them."
Jake shot a worried look to Amy before looking back towards me and Nicole.
"But will that work? What if the wolves split in half and go down both sides. That would mean two people would have to fight off a ton of wolves with no guarantee they'd be able to hold them off."
Amid Jake's concern, I continued, "Well, I know it's a risk. But think about it. This room is a straight shot from the stairs. If they think all of us are in here they won't send people down both sides. They'll take the shortest route."
Jake looked like he was about to say something else, but stopped short.
"Sounds like a good plan to me," Colt said.
"But, they have our scents, they'll know if we aren't in the same place, right?" Jake questioned.
"Well, since Nicole is an Alpha and I have Alpha blood, there are brief moments where we can cover our scents. It won't last long though so we'll have to wait until they get close enough to make our move."
Although Jake seemed to understand, I could still sense his hesitation. He broke my gaze as he glanced towards the ground. Making my way towards him, I lightly touched his arm. Although we normally touched each other all the time, something felt different about this time. As he slowly met my eyes again, I noticed a deep hint of worry.
"We'll be safe, Jake. I promise," I attempted to reassure him.
"Besides, I've got Selena's back," Nicole chuckled, "As always."
