One Hundred and Eighty Days Before

...

Three days after her admission, Luna had quickly left Grace's room after her beeper had gone off. 

She'd been explaining to the patient and her family, how things should work once she was discharged, which was going to be the next day.

The number on her beeper showed that she was needed in surgery. She couldn't be late.

That's why when Grace's husband had followed her out of the room, Luna was reluctant to turn around.

"Dr Alim!"

Nonetheless, being the perfect practitioner, she stopped in her tracks and faced him, "yes Mr Adams?"

He seemed flustered, eyes quickly moving across the floor as he formed the sentence in his head, the final product had come out blunt and rude, "I don't believe you."

Luna didn't understand, her head slowly tipped to the side in confusion, "...I'm sorry?"

Had she heard him right? What was there to not believe her about?

He exhaled and pinched the bridge of his nose,

"No, I'm sorry. I just..." Luna watched as the exhausted man leaned on the wall. His eyes looked up at her from the floor and, for a moment, she could see how broken he really was. "I just don't believe that she's gotten worse."

Luna was careful before she spoke, "Mr Adams... The evidence is all there, I'm sorry but, it's the truth. It's understandable for you to take time to come to terms with it." She nodded her head in reassurance, desperately needing to leave.

"No I- I want a second opinion. I want your opinion." His voice was starting to get louder.

"My opinion is the same as that of the doctors at Kings-"

"-but you haven't shown us any evidence, you haven't done any tests, you don't know anything!"

Luna stepped back, shocked.

She didn't have to deal with angry patients often, and the surge of adrenaline in her arteries was undoubtable. But the voice of reason in her head was strong enough to allow her to see clearly, the situation in front of her.
