I sit in Bio. Barely paying attention. It's day five of school and we've started units. So far everything seems to be review.

We have desk partners who will also be our lab partners. It's ordered alphabetically by last name.

"This next worksheet you can work through with your desk partner."

Next to me is Sebastian something. It might be Oakley. It's either him who's got that last name or the girl behind me.

"You been paying attention?" Sebastian asks me.

"No. You?"

"No."

"Oh good. Neither of us can do this."

"Oh well." It's quiet for an awkward second. "Are you new?"

"Yeah."

"Where you from?"

"Vancouver."

"Oh. I was new last year. All the way from Virginia."

"Odd place to move to."

"Ah well. My dads company started work out here and it was easier if we moved rather then him flying out of the country for six weeks."

"When they finish the job do you move back?"

"I don't know. Maybe, his office is back in Virginia and he flies down there for meetings. Doesn't matter to me though, I'll be in school by then."

"Uni?"

"Hopefully. I plan to go to school in the states. Likely radiology."

"Ah, stressful."

"Aren't they all?"

"I suppose."

Sebastian and I chat for a bit and eventually he asks a girl named Poppy for the answers. I think they're good friends?

Class ends and Sebastian asks if I wanna sit with him and his friends at lunch. I do. Poppy sits with him, along with two other girls and a boy.

Before I know it I'm on the bus at the end of the day.

"Isaac and Jeremy are going to come over," Auguste says to me once we're off the bus.

"Cool."

"Saw you were sitting with Sebastian."

"Yeah."

"Cool."

"You know him?"

"Well. I have been going to school with the majority of our grade for fourteen years. But yes, an old friend."

"You make it sound like your thirty."

"Might as well been thirty years ago."

Phoebe then catches up to us once Addison turns to enter her own house.

"What's up?"

"Nothing."

"Amber told me Isaac is coming to our house. Why can't Amber come?"

"Because I'm inviting Isaac and Jeremy not Isaac and his sister Amber."

"What are you guys going to do? What do guys even do?"

"Hangout? What I don't know how to answer that."

"You must live a boring life."
