Forgive me for not posting? :)

I'm legit always tired because of my job and as much as I don't want to give up writing, my body needs all the rest it could get. But trust me, it also hurts not to post at all.

Chapter 21 Part 1

Detour

Surprisingly, the awkward lunch continued without anymore incidents. The three women shifted to a topic of some other people involved in the latest scandal. The exact thing that provided me space to zone out. Lily seemed relieved too.

Veronica's phone rang and she excused herself. Amanda and Natasha carried on their conversation that neither Lily nor I thought to join in.

I quietly picked at the medium-rare steak that honestly turned my stomach. Lily didn't seem to touch hers either. I wasn't sure we should be eating bloody half-cooked food while pregnant.

The pregnancy. At that thought, my mind went to the calling card I had in my purse.

I had to see.

"I'm sorry, that was my boyfriend. The latest, at least." We all turned to Veronica who didn't bother to sit down. She plucked her purse from the table, "We need to leave right now."

The two others stood up.

"You're paying as usual, right?" Amanda asked, but seeing as they didn't bother to wait for a reply and walked away, I guess it wasn't much of asking.

"Let me pay," Lily offered.

I shook my head, "It's okay. I have..." as I pulled out the card Zachary gave me though, I couldn't help but stop.

I wasted his money on clubbing with those girls using this?

But Lily was already giving her card to the waiter. And as I watched, I couldn't help but frown. I may have forgotten the last few days but at these three's unexpected appearance... What was I really like?

What was I honestly truly really like? I couldn't shake the feeling that seeing those three women's interaction was hitting closer to the mark than I was comfortable with. Even witht eh warning Mara said about not looking for triggers...

I looked at Lily who was receiving her card again and turning to me, offered a friendly expression. How could she be smiling like this after that mess? I felt responsible for what I put her through.

"I'm sorry about them," I apologized.

Lily looked at me curiously, "Why?"

That question gave me a pause. "Because they're supposed to be my friends."

"Supposed to be?" There was a depth of understanding in those green eyes as they continued to watch me, "Just because you're always with someone doesn't mean you're friends, doesn't mean you're supposed to be close at all."

What cryptic thing to say, coming from Lily. The shy girl I knew suddenly becoming a bit different in my eyes.

"Doesn't it?" I asked.

She shook her head and looked out over the city, "I don't thinks so."

But still... when I recalled how they murdered her character with those cruel jabs.

I stared at the person that at least I was sure was my friend. "Lily? About what they said about you..."

She immediately shook her head, "It shouldn't matter. They don't know me personally. Don't be bothered by it."
