KEMALA SUHARTO's life had come to an end when her mother died. She was holding her mother's hand when it happened, when she disappeared into ashes.
The world had first erupted into chaos at the loss of half the population, but it eventually quieted down. Mass funerals were held, missing flyers were put up all around the globe, and clouds of ash could be seen. Some people were swept away into the wind seconds after they were gone.
But Kemala was all alone in her mother's large penthouse in New York City, distraught with her mother's passing, and feeling even more alone in the world. Her only friend, Min-seo, had passed as well—leaving her utterly alone in the world.
But in the vast penthouse, and her long-gone wish to graduate high school, she had more time than she knew what to do with on her hands. It at first was spent wallowing in sadness and grief, and then it turned into worrying about when her mother's money would run out, and exploring things she didn't know about her life. Her mother's computer, filled with emails to business partners from every spectrum—good and bad—who her grandmother was, and even more her mother never cared to tell her about.
But, one thing wasn't on the computer that held so many secrets. A note in her mother's closet, in a shoe box. Kemala only found it while she went through her mother's closet, the familiar smell of peppermints and perfume comforting. But, the shoe box had fallen when she hugged a coat, spilling out all over the floor.
That box spilled everything about her. Everything down to the fact her father wasn't a pilot like her mother said.
Kemala had opened Pandora's box without even knowing it.

→ kemala means "beautiful stone" (there's various translations, all connecting back to stone). the name was a hint to her father.
→ kemala's father was a titan who was gifted the ability to see the future. he saw what thanos was going to do early on and what was going to happen to titan. her father met a woman (kemala's mother), who was a cargo ship transporting goods across the galaxy, and kemala was accidentally born.
→ kemala does have powers, courtesy of her father. she got his powers to see the future, which kicked into place when she learned the truth. her existence reckons with thanos' plans, because she can see what he plans to do in the future, and what she could do to stop it, plus, she's the only thing left of the decimated planet, titan.
→ she goes to the avengers compound to reveal who she is, but sees them defeated, so she takes it upon herself to stop thanos.
