"Wow, wow, wow! Hold up a sec!" Asriel exclaimed, obviously baffled with what his friend had just said, and the others were also surprised "You and other human scientists found a way to make humans use magic once again, without any consequence to them? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?"

Alphys frowned a little but responded nervously

"I-I guess I should explain it better... C-come..." She leads the way to a table and pulled a chair, sitting down as the others did the same
"S-so... The thing is... I recently cleaned up the lab back at Hotland and... and I f-found some old... files in one of the shelves I never used... They belonged to the p-previous Royal scientist." Alphys started. She was fiddling with her fingers, not looking at anyone. Just explaining.

"I-I brought them back with me and decided to take a l-look at them to see what... the other scientist had been w-working on... And then there's this..." She stood up and walked to a nearby drawer and pulled out a file named "Soul Types". She closed the drawer and sat down at the table once again, placing the file onto the table. Everyone leaned over to see what it was

"Hmmm... 'Soul Types'... What does it mean?" Asriel questioned as he analyzed the folder itself. It was old... Pretty old. He took a look at the date it had been registered on the back of the folder"This dates back nearly 200 years ago! How in the blazes is this still intact?!" He spoke in awe, not taking his eyes away from it

"That means it was before you or any of us were even born huh, horn head?" Undyne grinned, waiting for Alphys to continue. Sans and Papyrus however were just talking between themselves about random things, not really paying much attention to what was being shown. They were talking about the restaurant they had opened a year prior, which was having a tremendous success and good feedback from both human and monster customers

"W-well... this is about monster and human souls... I-its describes the type of each species' souls and it explained why humans l-lost the ability to... use magic..." She said, gaining the attention of Sans and Papyrus, now listening to Alphys as well as Asriel and Undyne "...the thing is, humans never were able to use magic freely at all... Y-you see..." Alphys opened the folder, flipped some pages and stopped at one with a human and monster soul. The human soul was represented with a heart-shape, and the monster soul was similar but instead had the heart upside-down. This intrigued Asriel a little, leading to analyze the document closely, suddenly remembering something related to it... Something he found back when he was still a flower

"I think I know something about this. The human soul is like in a 'close' formation right?" He asked, looking up at his dinosaur-like friend whom had nodded at him

"Y-yes, something like that. I-it is explained that a monster is able to use magic freely, d-due to their body being mainly consisted in magic and t-their soul displaying a 'open' formation... Took me a while to t-translate these files..." She pointed out, adjusting her glasses carefully against her face

"That is written in Wingdings. A font which... is basically hands...?" Sans tilted his skull, staring at the file. He knew what the font was but deciphering it... No salvation there.

"I... think so. I-it's odd though. Like Asriel said, this file dates back almost 200 y-years ago... I knew about the study of souls b-but... I never knew they had so much information a-about them besides Determination experiments... I mean... I knew they studied the power of D-Determination but... This..." Although Alphys was aware of what had been happening about the more recent experiments of the previous Royal Scientist, she had never imagined a in-depth study had been done. The rest of the pages, however, were blank.

"Huh... Guess they didn't finish their research... Also, there is a name here... W.D. Gaster? Huh... I wonder..." Asriel pointed out as he flipped through the pages. "Anyway, why did you decide to scrub the Hotland Lab just recently?" He questioned Alphys, raising an eyebrow

"I-I didn't bring everything from there. I left some s-stuff back there, just in case I need... A-another space to work at..." She said "But... As I said... W-we made a breakthrough in this... I showed t-the other scientists what I had found at the lab... And we studied this further... After I translated it o-of course" She rubbed her cheek a little as the others listened closely

She continued " S-so, humans have a very distinct magical attributes when compared to monsters... A-and their magic is usually connected to t-their... traits. Like D-Determination... T-that is why according to the other s-studies I have... There are mainly 7 soul traits... Kindness, Integrity, Patience, P-Perseverance, Bravery, Justice and, as you all k-know... Determination. E-every soul trait has a unique type of magic, a-and as we know, human souls are much more powerful than our own... hence why their souls linger after the h-host body is dead... But each individual soul has a u-unique power... But for it to be unlocked, the actual soul m-must resonate with either a object... o-or a monster soul... T-there are some artifacts like necklaces... bracelets... or even a g-glove that can activate those kinds of m-magic..." She explained. Undyne, yawned a little, but loud enough to make Asriel frown a little at her

"Then... it should be easy for humans to manifest any kind of magical power if they have artifacts" Undyne pointed out, but was greeted with a disapproved head shake from Alphys

"N-not exactly. Depending on what the artifact may represent or what it is, a specific magical attribute will manifest, also depending on the soul trait of a u-user. This means, humans are l-limited to one kind of magical power... B-but there is a way to use a specific soul power with infused traits... Which can be extracted from humans or artifacts. Preferably from artifacts. You see... A-artifacts were crafted with infusion stones placed in them... which a-allows a magic user to activate a soul trait... But as I mentioned before, a-a soul power can only be active if both the infusion stone and the soul trait of the user is equal... If opposite... Nothing happens"

"Then what about the infusion stones? Do they contain any kind of soul, considering the traits they have? And clearly, the stones would not be the main material of the artifact but rather a conductor, without harming the user right?" Asriel questioned, still a bit confused

"Yeah... Something l-like that. But, in order for the power to be used, some of the magical trait within one's soul h-has to be transferred to the stone. Of course... The user's soul will replenish it's energy overtime... But using an artifact with infusion stones way too much can lead to soul depletion and may kill the user if used incorrectly. But give me a second..." Alphys said, getting up and walking over to another drawer and pulling out a file
"B-but we found a way to actually use the s-stones without artifacts..."
