Chapter 28 → Aaliyah

I pulled up to the Kuwonu household. Kekeli had texted me saying she needed to speak to me about something important. Concerning Zion.

Before I could knock the door swung open, revealing Kekeli.

"Hey Li, come in" Kekeli said stepping aside
"Thanks" I mumbled walking past her and into the living room

There sat Zion's mom, father and Kekeli now joined in. I sat on the furtherest couch and waited for them to speak

"So you're probably wondering why we called you here" Mandy began
"Yes" I answered simply

Zion's mom took a deep breath before beginning the story
"Well, before Zion met you he had been in college. And in that college he was having problem fitting in so I suggested a sorority house" she said
"Little did we know one of the challenges was to take some sort of drug that drove Zion crazy" Kekeli said
"We cut Zion's "supply" short the minute we found out he was doing drugs" Zion's dad said
"That's when Zion changed" Zion mom said

I furrowed my eyebrows
"Changed how?" I asked
"He began being violent with us. Disrespectful. He wasn't his usual Zion. He'd lock himself in his room or be out until the early hours of the morning" Zion's dad answered
"And he began sleeping around" Kekeli mumbled

"He hasn't shown any of those has he?" Mandy asked me.

I looked down. Not wanting to taint Zion's image. Zion's mom came to my side and pulled me into her side, that's when I realized I had begun crying.

"He- he hit me a few days ago" I answered meekly

Zion's mom pulled away. Immediately going to fetch a baby wipe and wiping my entire face, revealing the dark circles under my eyes and the purple bruise on my cheek. Her eyes immediately widened at my state

"Oh my god" she whispered
"Li I'm so so sorry" Kekeli sobbed
"It's not your fault" I sniffed

Just then the door flew open. Zion stormed in
"Aaliyah baby!" He yelled "I know she's here! Her car is outside!"
"Zion stop!" His father yelled making him freeze

He looked around and his eyes landed on me as did mine on him. We analyzed each other and I saw he had blood shot eyes and he was a whole shade paler.

"Liyah" Zion said reaching for me. I closed my eyes flinching from him and waiting for the impact but when nothing came I saw Zion standing in front of me, a horrified look on his face
"I made you scared of me" he whispered

I began to sob. I was tired of avoiding Zion. I vowed to stay with him through it all and here I am running away from it. Zion held me in his embrace which I had no intention of fighting

"Liyah I'm so sorry. I promise you I'll clean up. I'll do whatever it takes to have you back princess" Zion whispered into my hair
