Chapter 35 - The bloodied message
The floor is painted red with blood, lifeless bodies hang from chains, necks broken, soul less eyes staring accusingly back at me. My eyes take in the horror of spilled guts on the floor, entrails hanging from stomachs, faces so disfigured and tortured you can barely make out whether they're male or female. Leon releases a cry of anger and horror as he surges forwards searching for survivors, but the floor is collapsed the further he gets into the room and the blazing flames roar upwards towards him, forcing him backwards. I tear my gaze from the horror, my stomach churning and bile forcing its way up my throat.
Oh god.
Oh my god.
I struggle to keep the vomit down as my breath comes out in pants.
Billowing plumes of heat washes over us and I'm instantly hit with the reminder of where we are.
We need to move.
We're going to die.
I force my gaze from the grisly sight before us, my brain working on auto pilot as I stagger forwards, my shoes sticky with blood as I spot the next door which dances precariously near the collapsed floor...
"Leon!" but he is unresponsive, horrified, furious, guilty... a triage of emotions rippling over his face as his wolf ripples on the surface.
"LEON!" I scream, I grab his arm as he reaches up to the next victim to check their pulse, his body shuddering with the might of his wolf "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" I grab his chin and wrench it towards me, his body beginning to violently shift as his teeth elongate and his eyes burn with his wolf's soul "you need to get the rest of your people out! Now!"
"THEY DID THIS! I SHALL DESTROY THEM ALL!" he's too far gone. I don't blame him but right now we have the rest of his Pack behind us and only one way out. We need to move. How the hell do you calm a raging, mourning wolf down?
Leon's eyes darken, his bones cracking loudly as his body quakes and trembles with a gruesome, animalistic shift as a loud rumbling growl shudders through the room. The power vibrates under my feet as thick brown fur burst along his skin and...
"LOOK AT THEM!" I desperately reach forwards and grasp his chin in a tight grip, feeling the bones beneath my fingers shift and pop as I scream at him to look at his surviving Pack members, trying to switch his attention before he loses control.
If he hasn't already.
"LOOK AT THEM!" The command shudders from my lips as I point a bloodied hand at the people huddled in horror behind me "THEY ARE SCARED. TERRIFIED. THEY NEED YOU TO LEAD THEM! SNAP OUT OF IT!" my scream shudders over the roaring flames and it seems I've cut through his wolf as his body makes one last shudder and his eyes return to their normal flare, suddenly focusing on me as I command "control it. Leon you have to control it" his teeth chatter dangerously, bones snapping and reforming until his human body trembles, skin tightening but never the less he's managed to pull together some control.
Thank God.
"I need to...
I clench my jaw "I'll check. Get your people out! Now!"
"You can't..."
"I'll help her. Go. Get them out!" The same girl in the ripped jeans slips up beside me, her face deathly pale but determined as she avoids looking at the horror before us.
