Chapter 7 _ Que hice mal?

That night Leon could not conjure sleep confronted by the fact that his daughter had kissed a girl and no one had to tell him about it because he saw it with own two eyes.

"Amor, que tienes? You've been tossing and turning all night and it's honestly exhausting. You've been really quiet since Juliana left. What's going in?" Lucias said sitting up with her husband feeling that he knew Valentina's secret and that's why he was so lost in thought.

"I saw them kiss, Lucia. Valentina had Juliana against her car and they were way too close to be just friends and then that Juliana girl asked Valentina if she could kiss her and Valentina nodded and met her halfway. I, I, where did I go wrong?" Leon asked haunted with the idea that it was somehow his fault.

"Babe, look at me. This isn't your fault or anyone's. Valentina is a grown woman and she knows what she's doing." Lucias said holding Leon's face.

"But my daughter isn't gay. She's had 3 boyfriend and I've met each of them. All this time I thought she was in love with Lucho." Leon countered.

"Look Leon, it doesn't matter how many boyfriends she's had, if she feels this way for her friend who are we to come between them? I've never seen your daughter as happy as she's been since those two met. I know it's hard to accept but your daughter is your daughter before anything else and you have to protect her. This family, we're public figures, it's only a matter of time before it gets out and instead of turning you back on her she's going to need her father to stand up for her and face the world with her not against her." Lucia said.

"You knew, didn't you?" Leon said knowingly feeling betrayed at how Lucia was reacting.

"Yes, Valentina told me on accident and I swore to keep her secret as long as she needed. I love that girl and she means so much to me. Whether she likes women or men or both that doesn't change who she is, it only means she has more options. I am willing to protect her against the world but I'm only her stepmother, she needs to know that you're here for her as well. She needs her father." Lucias said not backing down as Leon's eyes soften at her words.

He nodded in understanding allowing himself to shed tears. "After her mother died, I didn't think I would meet anyone who would treat my children as if they were family. In this case as if Valentina were your own. Thank you. Thank you for making me see why I fell in love with you. Thank you for loving my family the way that you do." Leon said in a loving tone.

"I love you and knew from the beginning that if I loved you I had to love your family as well or this would never work because they are your world and Valentina has become a huge part of mine." Lucia said and continued with a slight laugh, "and I don't know why you would think she was in love with Lucho of all people. Every time you bring his name up as a potential partner she cringes at the thought of it. If we're honest I don't even think she likes the boy as a person."

"Yeah you're right. Now that I think about it she doesn't even mention him anymore. She doesn't invite him over anymore even when the rest of her friends come." Leon said joining Lucia's laugh. "You're right love, she's my princess and I will be here for her no matter what."
