Soon, the police had arrived and took over the scene. One of the detectives was checking over the class.

"-16, 17, 18," his eyes paused on me, glancing to the blood on my shirt before continuing. "Besides the one with the broken legs, they all seem to be relatively unharmed."

The class began to talk amongst themselves, exchanging experiences. "Alright kids, we gotta get you back to the school. We'll take statements later."

Astui raised her hand. "Detective, is Aizawa-sensei okay?"

The detective smiled tightly, "His arms are pretty damaged. Thanks to your classmate's actions, they should heal quickly, though. He has some facial fractures as well. Thankfully, no brain damage. But... his eye sockets were severely damaged. There's a chance he could suffer a loss of vision," he holds up his phone. "Or so I hear."

He went on to explain the statuses of Thirteen, All Might, and Midoriya. Soon we were herded onto the bus and taken back to the school. My mom picked me up, crying the whole way home. This reminded her too much of another villain attack...

School was canceled the next day. I spent it locked in my room, studying all my mother's emergency trauma aid textbooks. I wished I could have done more for Mr. Aizawa. That night, I received a text from Shinso.

From: Shinso
Hey. I heard about the villain attack. That was your class? Are you okay?

I glanced at the text, feeling a pit in my stomach.

To: Shinso
yeah it was my class. im fine, only a few scratches

From: Shinso
But are you okay?

I looked down to the books laid out across my floor and sighed.

To: Shinso
i dont know

ill see you tomorrow at lunch. gn.

The next day, I got to class early. I laid my head on my desk and tried not to think too hard about the attack. When the classroom door opened, I was shocked to see Aizawa-sensei standing there. He was covered in bandages and had both his arms in slings.

He unsteadily made his way to the front of the room. At some comments regarding his health, he glared.

"My well-being is irrelevant."

I frowned at his matter of fact tone.

"With the sports festival approaching, your fight is far from over."

Someone interrupted, "Right after a villain attack? Is that a good idea?"

Our teacher sighed, "The idea is to demonstrate that our crisis management protocols are sound. There will be 5 times the police presence than previous years."

He glanced around the room, "Besides, the sports festival is the greatest opportunity you'll get. We can't afford to cancel it over a few villains."

He continued to explain the importance of the festival. "This only happens once a year so you only have three chances. If you're hoping to become a hero, you can't miss this event."

As the lunch bell rang, the class chattered excitedly about the festival.

I smiled to myself as Kirishima's boisterous voice danced across the room. "Man, I'm so freaking pumped!"

It was clear the whole class was ecstatic, yet I felt a little nervous about the festival. I wasn't the most athletic guy.

After getting my lunch, I noticed Shinso had reached our table before me.

"Hey, Shinso," I greeted. "Did you hear about the sports festival?"

He tossed me a glance as I sat across from him. "Yeah. It's a nice opportunity, especially for those who didn't make it into the hero course."

At my confused look, he continued.

"Ah... they didn't tell you? If a student shows enough potential, they can be transferred to the hero course," he drawled.

I smiled brightly, "That's awesome! Maybe you'll get transferred into my class!"

He hummed slightly, stirring his food.

I thought for a moment. "Do you wanna go somewhere to hang out after school? Its fine if you don't want to, I jus-"

He cut me off with a nod, "Sure, why not?"

At his agreement, I brightened. "Okay, can you meet me outside 1-A after school?"

He nodded again and lunch continued as normal.

I packed up my bag quickly after class ended, not wanting to keep Shinso waiting.

"What's going on?!"

I looked over to see a crowd of student standing outside the classroom door.

I wandered over to get a better look.

"They're scoping out the competition, obviously." Bakugou swaggered up to the door, smirking. "No point, though. Move aside, cannon fodder."

Iida began to berate him when I heard a familiar voice from the hall.

"It's true. We came to get a look, but you sure are modest. Are most of the kids in the hero course like you?" Shinso had appeared in the doorway.

"Gotta say, I'm a little disillusioned if this is what you're offering. Everyone who didn't make the hero course got stuck on other tracks. There's quite a few of us." He glanced over Bakugou's shoulder and our eyes met. "At least, one of you is pretty nice."

He nodded to me, "Hey, [L/n]. You ready?"

Bakugou spun to face me, growling. "Oi! Boyscout, you know this stupid extra?"

I took a step back, "Uh yeah, we eat lunch together."

Skirting around the angry boy and waving bye to the rest of my class, I followed Shinso as he led a way through the crowd. Another kid began shouting as we made our way down the hall.
