DIRECTLY AFTER THE MAIN STORYLINE (NOT THE EPILOGUE):
A COLD, BRISK WIND CUT THROUGH THE AIR, NAGGING AT CHAN'S BARE ARMS AS HE WALKED through the various sidewalks, alone. He shivered, although he didn't do anything to shield himself from the wind. He kept his eyes focused solely on the path before him, his heart almost as heavy as his dragging feet. Had he ever felt so miserable, he wondered?
A wave of dizziness crashed into him, and he stumbled slightly. His vision swam, blinking in and out of darkness as he leaned against a nearby building; he hadn't been sleeping well, ever since Doyun had left. A humourless chuckle escaped his lips; he never knew something he'd done so long ago could come back and bite him in the ass like this. Life is cruel, he thought as a singular tear slipped from his eye. He wiped the back of his hand across his face, swallowing thickly; if he didn't hurry, he'd be caught in more than just chilling winds.
Despite his pounding, spinning head, he continued to walk back towards the motel room he'd booked for himself – for as long as he needed. He'd been staying with Doyun this entire time, since his family was all the way back in Australia. Things had been simpler when he was there; he and Doyun didn't have to worry about their pasts haunting them, punishing them for actions long-since done. But they aren't done, he gritted his teeth, because to this day, Minho still suffered because of him. He hadn't gotten his ring back yet – nor had he expected to, but it brought upon him an unending wave of despair.
How would he ever be able to see Doyun again, if he didn't fix the mess he'd made? He smiled ruefully, because even now, when he knew how much his once best-friend had suffered, he only cared for his own benefit. You're an awful person. It was no wonder that Doyun had left him – he deserved someone better, someone who didn't think of only themselves.
You have to let him go.
He bit down against his bottom lip even harder, tears stinging his eyes. But I don't want to, god dammit! He flinched, a quick, red hot flash of pain bursting through his skull, making him sway where he stood. His knees quivered as they threatened to give way beneath him, and his breathing quickened. Something caught in his throat, and before long he was tumbling; falling, breaking...
Until strong arms wrapped around him, keeping him from crashing onto the hard pavement below. He looked up through blurred vision, swallowing thickly when he was met with the unmistakable tuft of chestnut brown hair, the warm eyes he never wanted to see so terribly sad again. "You haven't been sleeping, have you?" he mumbled, his voice still as sweet, as soothing as it had once been.
"W-Doyun..." he whispered, his tone half relieved, and half broken. "Let's get you out of the rain, Channie." He looked up as rain he hadn't even realized had begun dripped onto his face in a melancholic symphony. Doyun hoisted him up, wrapping an arm around his waist as he leaned most of his weight against him, black umbrella forgotten on the sidewalk beside him.
They walked in silence, each step forcing Chan's mind into a deeper haze. By the time they arrived at Doyun's house, he could hardly breathe. His parents weren't home from the way all the lights were shut off, and before long he was in the guest bedroom with a fresh pair of clothes. "You should change, you'll get sick," Doyun stated softly as he turned around and left the room, closing the door gently behind him.
Tears burst from the blonde's eyes the moment the door clicked shut. In a way, it was more painful for him to see Doyun walk away, rather than not seeing him at all. As soon as his breathing had calmed and his tears stopped, he had no way of telling how much time had passed, other than the thickening of the rain outside. He quickly changed into the fresh clothes and slipped under the blankets, burrowing in them in hopes of escaping his dreadful reality in favour of a numb sleep.
Of course, just as it had been for the past several weeks since he and Doyun had separated, his eyes, although closed, wouldn't rest. His mind wouldn't stop buzzing, and despite his body's protest against it, he couldn't manage to fall asleep. So, he stayed there, sprawled out on the bed as comfortably as his sore and weeping body could manage, for a length of time he couldn't determine.
After a while, the door creaked open softly, but he still didn't open his eyes. Soft footsteps padded against the carpeted floor, until they stopped right next to the bed. "I'm sorry, Channie," Doyun whispered as he knelt next to him, brushing a stray lock of hair from his face. His own eyes were teary now, and he sniffled softly, blinking them away.
"I'm punishing you f-for my own guilt." His voice strained against his words, as though it was painful for him to even utter them. Chan's heart clenched as Doyun continued to run a hand through his hair. "I-I thought, that I was guilty for falling in love with someone who hurt someone I consider my little brother, so horribly, and that h-he was what was most important. And I... I'm so sorry," he abruptly stopped there, his voice giving out, and Chan heard him stand.
His hand shot out, wrapping gently around the elder's wrist as his eyes cracked open. "Don't go," he whispered, softly tugging Doyun towards him. The brunet blinked through teary eyes, gnawing on his bottom lip. "You were awake this whole time?" he mumbled, to which Chan nodded, lips pulling back into a sad smile. "Yeah."
"You're so sneaky," Doyun replied, averting his eyes. "Sorry," Chan mumbled as he slowly let go of Doyun's wrist. "I... I'm sorry, too. I'm sorry I was such a dumbass, and I'm sorry I... couldn't fix it." His voice lowered towards the end as his eyes turned towards the window, ashamed. "I shouldn't have put so much pressure on you," Doyun stated regretfully. "I don't want us to be separated anymore," he said, and Chan looked up, although he couldn't help the relief that flooded his system, or the happiness that sparked in his chest.
"Me neither," he whispered, feeling as though a huge weight had been lifted from is shoulders. Doyun took a seat on the edge of the bed just as Chan sat up, tired, yet happy eyes gleaming. It took less than a moment for their lips to be interlocked in a slow, passionate kiss – one that both had craved for the entire duration of their separation.
They pulled apart, and although he still couldn't get enough of his boyfriend, his body felt as heavy as lead; his fatigue had finally caught up with him, and now that his mind was set at ease, he couldn't control the way his eyes drooped. Doyun smiled softly and pushed him down softly before lying down himself, snuggling into his boyfriend's side. He smiled, missing the warmth that he now felt again as he brushed his fingers through Chan's messy hair, slowly lulling the boy to sleep.
"I missed you," he whispered to his sleeping lover as the rain outside finally let up, exposing bright beams of sunlight. "I love you."
A/N: Did I forget all about these bonus chapters I promised? Maybe... I'll go cry in my corner now. Also, I know some of you wanted to know if Minho forgives Chan, but I didn't think that idea belonged in this chapter; this was more centred around Doyun and Chan, yeet, but I hope you enjoyed! I know I haven't exactly been active this past month, and I'm sosososososo sorry about that! I kind of lost all motivation to write fanfics because I was struggling to find the right story to write next, but I'm back, and that's what matters! Don't forget to tell me if you want anything else as bonus chapters, because I can't guess owo I have Jeongin, and then Jaehyun bonus chapters coming up, so stay tuned! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Lots of love,
~Junnie
P.S: Don't forget to keep an eye out for the next installment of the cliché series ;) it's coming out s o o n (today, in fact, at some point, wink wonk)
