I watched as she ran off my heart breaking and turning darker. I growled and moved a hand through my hair, hating myself for ever falling for her.

I wanted to destroy my bedroom, and I was about to, but I stopped when I remembered her son sleeping in the bedroom next door.

I set my jaw as my Wolf snarled and walked to my office. Once there, I knocked everything off of my desk and started to trash the whole place. I felt numb and was sinking slowly into the darkness that I had fought every day, still debating if I should let it take over my life and get the revenge that I deserved, that I craved against her and those that had wronged me.

I was about to toss my desk out the window when the door opened and this light filtered in. I didn't look at the door, not wanting to see who had caught me in a fit of rage.

"Xavier?" her soft voice asked, sleepily. "When did you get home?"

I set my jaw and closed my eyes, trying to curb my anger. I couldn't let her see this, not when she had opened up to me about stuff that her cousin might or might not know about. "Go back to bed, Clarity," I said, my voice hard. "I don't want you to see me like this."

"Like what?" she asked, taking a hesitant step into the room. "Being scary? I'm used to it. Angry Alphas don't scare me anymore."

That was a lie. She was scared, but she didn't want me to know.

She took another hesitant step into the room but stopped when she almost stepped on something. "Can you put the desk down, and come here, please?" she asked, softly.

I took in a deep breath and let it out. The battle between the light and darkness that I felt still raged underneath my skin, both sides winning and losing at the same time. "Go back to bed, please," I said, my voice cracking. Please, just go back to bed, I silently begged.

"No," was her reply. "Not until you come over here and tell me what is wrong. What made you so angry?"

I set my jaw the urge to throw my desk at her getting stronger with every passing second. However, I didn't but set it down like she had told me to do, slowly pushing the darkness away bit by bit.

"Come here," Clara said. Her voice was getting stronger the more that she spoke, and I think she could tell that I woul- couldn't hurt her. "Please."

I walked over to her, ignoring the stuff crunching underneath my feet. I hung my head low, ashamed that she had to see a grown man, especially someone that she trusted, act out in a fit of rage and almost losing the sanity that he had.

Clara hugged my legs when I got close to her causing me to go still because I was not expecting that. She was a little afraid of me, but she knew that I wouldn't hurt her. "Pick me up," she whispered, softly.

"You could say please," I mumbled as I picked her up. I closed my eyes and gave her a hug being careful not to hurt this little girl.

"What got you so mad?" she asked again. She pulled away until she and her bunny were staring at me with unblinking eyes. Clara furrowed her brows and frowned as she studied me, cocking her head. "Did something happen with Cass?"

I hesitated but nodded my head. I knew better than to lie to her because she would know. "She thinks that I am a monster," I mumbled. "So she left."
