I rubbed my hands together when my father stopped the car at the edge of Xavier's territory as he had promised. I licked my lips and cleared my throat. My heart pounded in my chest, and I was afraid. I was afraid that he wouldn't take me back because I had said I would be back in a year but came back after four years of leaving him.

"Well," my father said, smiling. He turned to look at me. "This is your stop. Are you sure that you don't want me to take you all the way to the packhouse." He gave me a pointed look, and I rolled my eyes.

"No, Your Majesty," I said, earning a glare from him. I gave him a smug smile and cleared my throat before I grew serious. "I think that I should go by myself. I had promised the other Guardsmen that you would on your way to the cabin after you dropped me off here. And w-"

"And you five will be on your way in the morning. Justin and Julian will be picking you all up before driving there," he said, interrupting me. "I know this, Cassandra Marie. I was there when you all discussed it."

I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Well, Old Man," I teased, earning a playful growl from him. "I just need to make sure that you know the plan. It is my duty t-"

"It is your duty to protect the king. I am not the king anymore. Justin is the king with Siobhan as his queen."

Slowly, I nodded my head because I knew it was true. It was the reason why I had stayed longer than I should have than I had promised. I had a job to do, and my job was to make sure that the transition between the kings went smoothly.

It didn't help that people didn't like Siobhan because she was human but also because they didn't want a gay king either. They had tried to make me queen, but I had instantly shut it down and set my support with Justin and his mate, submitting and promising that I would serve them.

Of course, all of the other Guardsmen did this as well, not caring that the queen was human and had to learn our customs, which I had helped her do because Justin asked me too.

I had been gone during their coronation as king and queen because there had been a small riot, and I had to take care of it with others with me. I had missed Xavier and Parker, and I had no idea how he felt about it.

My father sighed and placed his hand over mine. He squeezed it reassuringly and waited until I looked at him. Worry filled his eyes, and I knew that he was worried about me and understood why I was nervous. "He'll welcome you back," he said. "He'll understand why you hadn't been at the coronation and understand why you took so long."

I hesitated but nodded my head. "I know," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I cleared my throat and licked my lips, unbuckling myself from my seat. "I think that I have to get going. Contact me when you are at the cabin."

"I will," he promised, "but don't answer. I would like to see you marked and mated by the time we see each other again." He winked, and I rolled my eyes while my cheeks turned red.

"Father," I groaned, and I earned a chuckle from him. I placed my arms around him and gave him a hug. "I love you," I whispered.

He hugged me back and placed a kiss on the side of my head. "I love you, too," he said. "And, I will see you tomorrow. Don't forget the present that Justin and Julian had picked out for you," he called out while I got out of the car.

I bit back a groan but grabbed the present from where I had placed it. I had no idea what was in it, and the twins' instructions were for me to only open it when I was in Xavier's bed and waited for him to come in.

And, unfortunately, I obliged and didn't look in the bag, but I had a feeling that it was "sexy" lingerie that was Christmas themed. Other than that, I didn't know.
