I wait patiently as we drive by place after place, Reece holding a smug grin on his face as he turns corners. I watch the flashes of lights and buildings as we go, it all becoming a blur, and we are completely induced in silence; a long, agonizing silence, only inturrupted by the buzz of the car's engine. I want to break it but I can't seem to find the right words, so instead I just sit through it.
Finally, Reece decides to speak up, his voice piercing through the silent car. I feel relieved at that factor, not sure how much longer I could have dealt with it for; I'm getting impatient.
"We're getting close, so you're gonna have to close your eyes; I want it to be a surprise." He says quietly, his eyes focused on the road. My eyebrows raise in surprise, not having expected that sort of thing from him, and a wide smile forms on my face.
"Well look at you, being all romantic." I tease, watching Reece's eyes flick over towards me momentarily.
"I'm trying," He says seriously, "I'm just not very good at it." His voice sounds insecure, and my heart thumps sympathetically. I forget how new Reece is at this kind of thing, being in a proper relationship, and I can tell he feels hesitant about everything he does.
I grab his hand softly in reassurance, bringing it up to my lips and placing a small kiss on it, and then placing it on my lap.
"I'm sorry if that bothered you. You really are romantic, and I find it really adorable. Don't doubt yourself baby, you're doing amazing." I can't help but love the way his mouth forms a shy smile, a blush, almost nonexistent, forming on his face. He just glances over at me, trying to hide his smile, his eyes glowing.
"You always know exactly what to say... I don't know how you do it." His voice sounds breathy, almost nervous, and he squeezes my hand lightly. I blush at his words, before complying his previous request and closing my eyes, being met with complete darkness.
"Just a few more minutes." Reece mumbles once he realises I have my eyes closed. We stay silent once more, him concentrating on his driving and me trying my very best to defy my lack of will power and keep my eyes closed; god knows I'm struggling to do so. Finally, I feel the car come to a complete stop, and Reece undoes his seatbelt.
"Wait here for a second." He says, and that's when I hear him open and close his car door. Seconds later, mine also opens, and his hand comes to cover my eyes.
"I'm surprised that you managed to resist the temptation to look, baby." He says, the mixture of the pet name and his proximity sending shivers down my spine. He doesn't move for a few seconds, and I furrow my eyebrows in minor confusion, but then I feel his lips place a light kiss on my neck, taking me by surprise. It lingers momentarily before he pulls away, sighing softly.
"You're so gorgeous, George." He murmurs, making the tips of my ears and nose turn a dark shade of pink.
"Reece, that's adorable and all but I'm seriously getting impatient." I whine lightly, causing Reece to laugh lightly.
"Right, right, of course." He proceeds to unbuckle my seatbelt, helping me out of the car and shutting the door behind me, the soft click letting me knows it's locked. He then helps me walk forwards for a while, his hands still blocking my vision, until finally he decides to take them off my eyes. I keep my eyes shut for safety measures; maybe he did it by accident.
"George, you can open your eyes now." He chuckles, and I do as I'm told excitedly.
Once I ajust to the soft light, my eyes focus on the sign on top of the building, flashing in neon lights. Shake it, it reads, and I remain minorly confused as I try to see into the building, only seeing more lights and not much else. I just turn to Reece, tilting my head slightly. He chuckles and pulls me closer to him, tilting my head so that he can place a hesitant kiss on my lips, which takes me off guard but makes my heart warm slightly. He's trying so hard.
"It's a karaoke and dance bar. It's the most laid back, fun place you'll ever go go." He says, a bright smile on his face, contagious enough to create one on mine. "And, they do the most insane burgers." He clucks his tongue, as though awaiting my reaction, and I giggle, grabbing his hand and intertwining our fingers.
"Then what are we waiting for?" I murmur, tugging him towards the entrance. He laughs and takes lead, holding the door open for me. Inside, everything is slightly louder. The main lights are dimmed, although there are bright, neon lights bouncing off the walls and illuminating the faces of the people softly dancing on the floor. There are tables around the sides, where people are eating and observing the scene, and then a stage where people are getting up to sing along with the karaoke music. I stay stunned momentarily, until Reece tugs me slightly towards one of the tables, and we sit down silently.
"Hey, my name is Mattie, I'll be your waitress tonight, can I-" She cuts off when she finally looks up from her notebook, her eyes widening in surprise.
"Reece!" She exclaims, a bright smile forming on her face. Reece, on the other hand, looks frightened. And it finally registers in my mind why.
Quickly, I pull my hand out of his, but it's too late; Mattie notices and her eyes widen slightly. Reece looks disheveled for a few seconds, unsure of what to do, but eventually, he grabs my hand again.
"Mat... uh, hi. Been a while." He says quietly, looking down at the table. From his tight grip on my hand, I can feel his heart beat racing, and my mind flows in confusion.
"Sure has." She mutters, looking between us in confusion. Reece doesn't seem to know what to do.
