coming out

with a fierce battle raging in my mind,
the words slipped from my tongue,
and a weight fell up and off of my weak and worn shoulders.

two words that seemed oh so harmless,
but can be the crushing difference of acceptance or of hatred.

two words that meant the absolute world to me,
but are brushed off and spit on by others:
whether it be because I'm too greedy
or because liking the same sex is a sin.

but the aching pain of holding it in,
was relinquished and freed,
and my heart felt happier than ever -
with our without the acceptance of others.
