"MAUL, NO!"

SWOOSH!

Her scream echoed through the Sith Temple of Malachor; the deafening cries of agony that followed were very fitting for the dark environment, and the tears that spilled from the woman's eyes fed into the pain that boiled beneath the surface as they descended horribly to the ground.

The disgraced Sith Lord whirled around to face her, his eyes widening as he saw (Y/N) staring down at him in horror. She had seen him burn away the wonderful gift of sight that Kanan Jarrus had been given at birth, and the fact alone shattered her heart. It was the identity of the one who had forcefully taken such a treasured thing that had been so graciously bestowed upon the Jedi that shook her to her very core.

"HOW COULD YOU?" (Y/N) demanded, her voice breaking. She leapt from her perch upon the crevice above the scene and ran to Kanan. She gripped his shoulders and stared into his blank eyes. A large scar was forming over where Maul's saber had slashed him, and his irises were now devoid of the lively color that they had once held.

"(Y/N)...I-"

The woman whirled around and stared at Maul; her spirit faltered as she thought of how she had been so certain that she had loved him. So many years of isolated peace with him while the rest of the galaxy crumbled to unrecognizable pieces all around them...(Y/N) stared into Maul's unnaturally yellow eyes, noticing for the first time how horrifyingly they contrasted her own (e/c) eyes.

(Y/N) ignited her (f/c) saber(s) and quickly overtook his wavering position, the terribly beautiful flashes of light rapidly disturbing the shadows on the forsaken Malachor. The tears that refused to halt as they fell from the eyes of both anger and love bled into the ground; the brokenness that brought them on seeming to further consume the long-dead world.

(Y/N) brought her saber down upon his, desperately trying to keep her newfound anger in check. She could not stoop to his level; especially as he was clearly too shaken to focus on the combat at hand. She easily blocked all of his attempted blows, preventing them from striking her in spite of that which she knew; Maul would never hurt her. Maul made the mistake of momentarily allowing his dual-bladed saber to hang limply at his side, giving (Y/N) the window that she needed to aim a successful kick at his opposite side. The blow was as light as (Y/N) could have possibly allow it to be, however the sheer force of emotion that ebbed with it had brought the Sith Lord to his knees.

(Y/N), despite her trembling hands, was able to quickly disarm Maul after their brief battle; she used the force to uncertainly cast the red blades to the side, forcing them to retract into the claw-like hilt that Maul had constructed. She watched the elegant weapon join its master upon the ground and slowly returned her devoted attention to Maul. Her gaze never removed itself from his horrified eyes as she cried, "You have caused so much pain in your life! When will it end?

"I'm sorry, (Y/N). I truly am!" He said pleadingly. The dark shadow that radiated off of him seemed to diminish slightly as he shook with sobs. (Y/N) felt tempted to comfort him, but she realized with a start that she had done this before; ever since she had met Maul, she had watched him do unspeakable things and then felt obligated to forgive him for his vengeful and violent nature. It was not the first time that she had thought of how her decision to associate with him alone had caused her to lose herself almost entirely, however this time the memory left her with a dull ache deep within. Seeing the entirety of Maul as he sat, betrayed and horrified, on the ground before her, she finally understood that he was not worth any of what she had sacrificed for him- especially as each and every favor had gone unnoticed and unreciprocated.
