Dust was leaning on a tree on the outskirts of a park. The faint sound of children laughing and screaming echoed along the woods. That or the sound of their parents yelling at them for getting hurt on a playground. At least he was far enough away from it.Closing his eye sockets, he might've napped then and there, but he was interrupted by the sound of a loud bang from the playground. Followed by the noise of the a child crying in the distance; of course.
There was a familiar voice over there on the playground, but Dust was currently preoccupied.
He pulled out a pack of cigarettes, as well as getting his little lighter out. After a few seconds of adjusting the lighter, it finally worked; a tiny flame danced above it, almost hovering.
Proceeding to prepare with smoking the cigarette, Dust was pretty glad he was a bit far away from the playground. You're not actually allowed to do it near kids, let alone a playground. Normally, he loved kids, but there's a set of rules when it comes to interacting with children. No swearing, no mean comments, no smoking, etc. The list goes on.
Dust took a deep breath, closing an eye socket, like that would really help anything. It was pretty peaceful, even serene at the moment. A faint sound of footsteps being the only thing that rang in his nonexistent ears.
As he was about to put the cigarette in his mouth, somebody snatched it out of his hand.
He opened a socket blearily, slightly annoyed.
Nevermind, he's no longer annoyed.
"Sorry, Dust. You know the park is a no smoking area?" Blue smiled apologetically at the taller.
"I wouldn't actually do that if the place was fine with smoking." He smushed the now ruined cigarette, glancing at him with a concerned face.
"It's fine, Blue. Really." His face brightened up, stars showing up on his pupils.
He better not keep that face up, or Dust would die from adorableness. Not like he didn't when he first saw Blue, the smol had always been too much for him.
"Well, what are you doing here?"
"Chillin'. Or spotting evil dangers from around the trees. Whichever you prefer." He giggled slightly, now sitting next to Dust while leaning on the tree behind him. The taller was still standing, and he felt the urge to grab another cigarette.
Force of habit, probably; but he'll put this one aside for Blue.
"Which evil dangers? The key thieves or the...cows?" Blue added that last part in between a little fit of chuckles, quieting down his tone.
It was an inside joke, but Dust was fine with others joking about it despite not understanding the meaning.
"Both, I guess. But really, those 'key thieves' are a whole lot more sneaky than you think." A little bit of a warning, which quieted down the smaller a bit. He didn't know why he was being so serious and worried about Blue, it was just a mysterious feeling. Whatever it was, Dust had not minded it the first time it appeared.
Or maybe...
He knows what it is and is just ignoring the answer.
Probably that, Dust had a habit of doing that sometimes.
"What's it like being a guardian?"
"Hm?" Blue's voice had broken his train of thought for a
few seconds."Y'know, I've never been able to ask anyone about it. Like, it seems very cool, but you guardians always look around like you can't trust anyone when you show your keys." Wow, he must've been paying a lot of attention. Was he looking at everyone? Or just Dust?
