Chapter 23: Shiki vs Maka

"Good luck Maka,"

"You too Shiki, and I won't let you pull any of those tricks against me like you did Shinji,"

"We'll see," Shiki said as he relaxed his shoulders.

"Duel!" Both of them yelled.

*Starting: Maka*

"I draw, set four cards, and end my turn,"

*Turn End*

Maka: Hand 2, LP 5000, Set S/T 4

Shiki: Hand 5, LP 5000, Set S/T 0

*Turn Start: Shiki*

"I draw and activate Harpie's Feather Duster to destroy your backrow,"

"In response I activate Fake Trap, allowing my traps to remain safe,"

"Alright, then I summon Legion the Fiend Jester,"

"In response I use Trap Hole. When my opponent normal or flip summons a monster with 1000 or more stk it is destroyed,"

"Legion's effect kicks in. When it is sent to grave from field I add a normal monster from grave or deck to hand. I add Dragonpit Magician, then set the pendulum scale with Dragonpit and Dragonpulse,"

Note: Pendulum scales are set like in Pendulum format

"Pendulum summon! Trance the Magic Swordsman, and Gemini Elf,"

"One second! I activate Bottomless Trap Hole,"

Shiki let out a chuckle and looked down for a brief moment. "You aren't letting me do anything huh?"

"Well duh. Everyone here— minus Lucina— is trying their hardest to win right?"

"Yeah, you got me there, but I ain't done yet. I activate Soul Charge to revive Legion,"

Shiki: LP 5000 —> 4000

"I end my turn,"

*Turn End*

Maka: Hand 2, LP 5000, Set S/T 1

Shiki: Hand 0, LP 4000, Set S/T 0

*Turn Start: Maka*

"I draw and set three more cards, then I end my turn,"

*Turn End*

Maka: Hand 0, LP 5000, Set S/T 4

Shiki: Hand 0, LP 4000, Set S/T 0

*Turn Start: Shiki*

"Draw for turn, then setting a card. Next I switch Legion to attack mode,"

*Battle Phase*

"Legion attacks you directly,"

(Maka: 5000 —> 3700)

"I end my turn,"

*Turn End*

Shiki: Hand 0, LP 4000, Set S/T 1

*Turn Start: Maka*

"Draw," Maka looked at the card in her hand, then at the set card Shiki had.

"Okay. I guess it's worth it, but if that set card isn't what I think it is, then this duel is essentially over,"

"I activate my three set cards. Swamp Mirrorer, Tiki Curse, and Tiki Soul, then tribute them for Uria,"

"With six traps in the grave Uria gets boosted to 6000 atk. Next I use Uria's effect to destroy your set card,"

"In response I activate my skill Card Safe to protect it,"

*Shiki: 4000 —> 3000*

*Battle Phase*

"Uria attacks Legion the Fiend Jester!"

(6000 vs 1300)

"In response I activate Magic Cylinder,"

"Yes! It was the trap I was thinking of,"

"I activate Soul-Absorbing Monolith,"

"So you also prepared for burn?"

"Yeah, especially since Shinji is taking part in the tourney. Anyway, I gain life equal to the effect damage I would've recieved,"

(Maka's LP: 4000 —> 10,000)

"Well, I guess it all just relies on the card I pull huh?" Shiki asked.

"Yup. Let's see if you get lucky,"

*Turn End*

Maka: Hand 0, LP 10,000, Set S/T 0

Shiki: Hand 0, LP 3000, Set S/T 0

*Turn Start: Shiki*

"I draw," Shiki looked at the card in his hand, and let out a deep sigh. It was a monster that required two tributes, so all he could do was turn Legion into defense position.

*Turn End*

When Shiki's turn ended he mentally slapped hinself in the face because he forgot his pendulum scales, but that wouldn't help much in front of a 7000 atk behemoth. Instead the card would only help him stale.

Maka: Hand 0, LP 10,000, Set S/T 0

Shiki: Hand 1, LP 3000, Set S/T 0

*Turn Start: Maka*

"I draw and enter battle phase,"

*Battle Phase*

"Uria attacks Legion,"

(7000 vs 1500)

"Legion's effect allows me to add a normal spellcaster to my hand. I add Dragonpit Magcian," Shiki smiled. He now had two level 7 monsters, and with that he can overlay them into something that would allow him to win,"

*Main Phase 2*

"I set a card and end,"

*Turn End*

Maka: Hand 0, LP 10,000, Set S/T 1

Shiki: Hand 2, LP 3000, Set S/T 0

*Turn Start: Shiki*

"I draw and perform a second pendulum summon. I pendulum summon Dark Magician and Dragonpit Magician, then build the Overlay Network. Xyz summon! Number 11: Big Eye,"

"Sorry, but you won't be using Big Eye,"

"What? Why not?"

"Because my set card. I activate Ring of Destruction, which blows up a monster you have as long as it has less than or equal atk as your life, then we both take damage equal to that monster's atk,"

(Maka: 10,000 —> 74,000)

(Shiki: 3000 —> 400)

Shiki lowered his head and nodded slightly. "Okay. Just go ahead and deal the last blow, you deserve that much," Shiki said to which Maka nodded.

"Right. Good game Shiki,"

"Good game Maka,"

Maka's turn rolled around, and with a dimple hand raising the duel had ended.
