I held my grip around his solid waste. The western horses canter is a lot smoother then I expected, so essay going. I rested my head against his back, to keep the wind from wrecking my untied brown hair. "You right back there?" Leo yelled passed the wind. I made sure i tried not to look at the ground that was moving so quickly underneath us, instead i kept my eyes looking at the pine forest we were heading towards us, the Forrest stared at the end of the large treeless paddock, we had been cantering down for the passed ten or so minutes. Closing my eyes I answered, "yeah, just keeping my mind occupied."
Ridding a horse again made me feel alive. Like my heart was whole again, strumming faster then it ever did. The feeling of freedom, feeling the horse and you bond as each and every muscle and limb, strive to keep you moving and heaving in their every breath. Beginning to count The rhythm of horse hooves beating against the hill, one. Two. Three. One. Two. Three, think i fell asleep, still repeating the beat of strides beating in my head.
"Hey look were here." Leo nudged me with his elbow, confused why I had my eyes closed. I sat up off of his shoulder, and took in my nature like surroundings. We were in a woodland forest with birds singing among themselves, the sound of running water and frogs. "Where are we?" I ask. Richie began to walk down a narrow pathway dodging sticks and gum tree branches, "were right passed the back part of block. it ended just before the forest stared."
We followed Richie though the trees cooping the dodging actions. There was a clear but, shady opening with a shallow hip-high creek flowing nicely. As we approached it Leo told me to hold on, so I huddled up behind his back, holding him tightly around the waste, wow... He has abs! I thought only to realize how creepy it was to think that.
Duff seemed to have fun walking through the creek, lifting his legs up as high as possible, amused by the slash it made. "I hope your enjoying this as much as he is." Trying to make me smile (which worked). The murky, water just raised over my ankle wetting my boots. Richie who was well ahead of us had all ready dismounted on the other side. Finely the creek ended and I got off of duff without a care in the world. The cleared area had a nice grass bed that they used rope and trees to make a fence around. I remember when dad and I, at shows far away from home, would do the same thing to claim space for the four horses we had. Duff and Richie's mare 'jazzy' practically locked themselves in the green pick.
While i was day dreaming Leo and Richie had climbed up a black wattle tree. I turned to see them looking at something in one of the branches, "what is it?" I yell. Richie leaned over to see me an odd eleven meter's below him, "come check this out!" I was curious what was up there, but I wasn't the best climber. I jumped up on to the center where all the main branches meet up, from there I crawl-like up the branch to were the boys sat. When I try to hold a small snapped stick I slipped, one of my feet hanging loose. Leo grabbed my hand pulling me up to sit with them. I smiled with joy at the creature's (and that he helped me). Three baby chicks sat in a nest, the size of a cupped hand. A scweeking noise came from their huge beaks sensing danger. "Well their ugly." I mumbled.
"Their only baby fig birds." Rickie spat.
"I'm gonna go find that knife" Leo randomly stated. He climbed down the tree and began to look for this 'knife' leaving me in the tree with Rickie, "Leo has a girlfriend." He said bluntly.
"What?"
"Look, i know you like him but I'm warning you. Tomorrow night his girlfriend is coming for dinner." I was completely confused, "what are you talking about? Leo doesn't even really live here. Wouldn't he just go to his family's house?" Then it dawned on me. He lived here, he worked here, him and Richie have known each other for years, i was so dumb for not seeing, Leo was a foster kid, "ohh..." I stammered "how long has he lived here?"
"Around two years. We never told your Dad because he was a single parent and here we were foster caring. That's also why you didn't see me last year." I never really thought about the background of this family. I sighed feeling horrible, Richie felt this pain and selfishness, "I don't like his girlfriend though. I have a plan..."
I look up at Richie with all these emotions going though my head.
"OK at twelve tonight I what you to meat me at the stables." Like that Rickie jumped down the tree as Leo came out of the bushes from searching.
******
Dinner was silent I think everyone knew I just found out except for Leo who sat there complaining about the footie. I then went to bed placed my earphones in my head and set my alarm for 11:50.
